Amazon.co.uk Review

Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman star in Under Suspicion, a suspense-filled tale of interrogation--less of a whodunit than a did-he-do-it. Freeman plays Victor Benezet, a police captain investigating the murder of a child, and Hackman is Henry Hearst, a prominent lawyer and pillar of the community who also happens to be the prime suspect. Benezet and Hearst have a history together, and Benezet is torn between showing deference for an old friend and prominent community figure and ruthlessly pursuing a man he believes to be a child murderer. Director Stephen Hopkins spins multiple versions of the same events, popping details in and out as Hearst's story changes. Hopkins also uses the unusual and satisfying technique of juxtaposing the interview room with other locations, allowing Benezet to "follow" Hearst through his movements as he questions him. Under Suspicion also serves up the delicious eye candy of Puerto Rico during the St Sebastian festival, but the real treat is getting to watch two masters such as Hackman and Freeman square off. --Ali Davis, Amazon.com

Did He Or Didn't He? 10 May 2011
Format:DVD
'Under Suspicion' takes an odd route in that most of the film is set in a police station interview room and you're almost thrown straight into the plot rather than sitting through an introduction to cover the back story of 2 school girls found dead and I think this helps as you have to pay attention from the off.
Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman are the film basically, while other characters, Thomas Jane ('Hung') as the cop on a leash and Monica Bellucci as Hackman's trophy wife are on the fringes at times and Bellucci seems slightly wooden to begin with but in the second half of the film she gets a 20 minute section where she really shines as the sultry suspicious wife.
It's hard to really get into the plot without spoiling it one way or another but basically, Harry Hearst (Hackman)-Did he or didn't he?

I didn't know what to expect with this film as most of film is based in the police station it had the potential to be really boring but surprisingly was not. In fact I really enjoyed this film the performances by the two leads were excellent and the film kept me interested throughout I thought the twist was quite intriguing. I would recommend this film for those who enjoy psychological thrillers it also stars Monica Bellucci who looks incredibly hot in this film not necessarily one of her best performances but worth a watch just for her sheer sexiness!

As one of the other reviewers remarked, a lot of questionmarks remain after the quite unexpected ending. I think it's part of the charm of the movie, personally I like films that have you think a bit further than the end credit.
If you're looking for action packed murder movies look elswhere, if you like to see a beautifull shot movie and see good character acting by actors who are doing a project they love to do, you won't regret bying this one...

Watch Gene Hackman films all the time. The performance by both Hackman and Freeman in this film is tremendous. Worth a watch.

BIG ON STARS, LOW ON STORY
Very disappointed in this one, I like both the stars but the story was very slow and very predictable.

Two old pros conjure a masterpiece of misdirection
Puerto Rico is the unlikely setting for UNDER SUSPICION, a who-done-it that's essentially a stage spotlighted for two of America's finest actors, Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman. Read more

Great movie, but not easy to chew on
This is a great remake of a classic French movie from the sixties ("Garde a vue"). Despite what it looks like, it is NOT a murder mistery. Read more

Struggling torrid murder interview movie
This film has 'straight to video' written all over it. Hackman and Freeman are both good actors, but struggle to hold your attention or ignite your imagination. Read more
