Format: Paperback
Alexandra Findlay, an Australian Travel Company Tour Director (who is firmly 'in the closet') is directed by her boss to play special host to Lee Paynter, an 'out' lesbian who heads up a U.S. travel company.
Alex works alongside Steve Monahan, a moronic homophobe who is competing with her for a promotion.
Inbetween batting off stupid remarks from Steve, Alex commences to accompany Lee on various 'outback' tours and becomes completely infatuated but exasperated with the brash American.
Claire McNab has written several books about Carol Ashton - Detective but this book is a great romantic read and the descriptions of the Queensland coast certainly make you want to go. I originally read this book a few years ago but have just returned from a trip to Cairns in Australia so decided to re-read. Still enjoyable and the sparring between Alex and Lee are dead right!
Enjoy.

Beautifully told story, so good I've read it twice. It's a simple love story, it's romantic and it's sexy and it has a happy ending. A simple classic formula that only works when it's told as well as this.

Familiar struggle 21 Aug. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
How honest should you be with your life? That is a question that every gay or lesbian eventually has to answer. The question lies at the heart of this book. How much should you risk to be comfortable with yourself? And don't let anyone tell you that being "out" is the answer for everybody. It was interesting to see that Karin Kallmaker wrote a review for this book. Kallmaker has to be THE premier writer of lesbian novels right now, but she doesn't mind giving praise to another writer's work. I agree with her about Under the Southern Cross. The Carol Ashton series by McNab is entertaining reading, but this book is much better developed.

A very good read and an enjoyable romance 24 Jan. 2015
By VelvetLounger - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This si the best of Clare McNabs romances and i recommend it. 5 stars is a little generous but it is, for me, the best of a series of excellent books by a great lesbian author.

In this Trad Romance the two main characters are well drawn and developed. their attraction is strong but their difficulties are huge. Written at a time when being 'out' was no easy decision, in a country like Australia which is still known for its homophobia, our heroine has a tough choice to make.

The story is light and easy going, no hard work here, but that doesnt detract from a good read and an enjoyable romance.

Claire McNab is an exceptional writer. I feel sad that she does not write books anymore. Her characters and their stories are great.
