I was pleasantly surprised by this wonderful new release from Julia Fordham. Yes 12 of the 13 tracks are re-workings of Julia's own original material but the tracks are flawless and quite simply stunning. Not many artists could carry this off but Julia's rich tones accompanied by Grant Mitchell on piano make this album just perfect. On her recent UK tour (June/July 2013) I've taken along several friends some of whom had never heard Julia's music before and have snapped this album up and are looking forward to her return in December.

Acoustic albums and revisiting classic hits and favourites can be a dangerous territory but Julia has done this so beautifully with so much class. Hearing these songs stripped down to just piano and voice really exposes the fact that she is an incredibly gifted songwriter with real depth and heart. The version of Happy Ever After is so incredibly gorgeous and moving and the new track for the album, Skipping Under The Rainbow, is a fantastic proving beyond doubt that she still has that gift. A must have album for fans and a great introduction to Julia's work for new listeners. Top album, well done Julia!

Coming 25 years after the initial success of Happy Ever After, this album revisits some of Julia Fordham's best known songs in a collection which highlights the way in which her voice and sound has matured over the years. Stripped down to piano and vocals in pared-back arrangements, it's the voice that shines through: an instrument as delicate and expressive as a Stradivarius, and every bit as precious. On songs from her eponymous debut album, the reworking does away with the now dated production of that first album, shedding fresh light on Behind Closed Doors and Invisible War. On tracks such as Concrete Love, long term collaborator Grant Mitchell's glorious piano arrangements put a new slant on more recent favourites.

This is a superb set of songs from one of the UK's best songwriters: it is testament to Fordham's incredible gift as an artist that she continues to produce work of such an astonishingly high calibre. This album is highly recommended, but old fans and new should explore further to find a 25 year treasure trove of consistently good albums by a songwriter who is as much under the radar as she is, on this evidence, Under The Rainbow.

I was not sure what to expect with this album. Julia's voice is so unique and she has been surrounded by top
class production over the years and to hear her stripped back with only piano accompaniment is just beautiful. Her voice so rich and lush that it has never sounded better and new life has been created in some of her classic numbers. Towerblock sends shivers all over the body and More Than I Can Bear is a little gem. Managed to see Julia on her first UK tour for 20 years last week and she really is a delight to watch. Long may she continue.

This new album by Julia Fordham features 12 'stripped down' versions of songs from previous albums and a brand new track 'Skipping under the Rainbow'. On all of the tracks Julia is accompanied by Grant Mitchell on piano, who produced and played on her first 3 albums. Julia's sublime voice shines through on all the tracks. I love all the tracks but More than I can Bear & Behind Closed Doors stand out for me. After 25 years, Julia just gets better & better as a singer/songwriter. This album really shows Julia's voice at its best, If you like this album, Julia is playing again live in the UK in December - catch her if you can as she is one of those rare artists who sounds just as amazing live, or even better, than on CD!
