Product Description

For the past six months, something has been happening to teens in Santa Feliz. Seventeen-year-old Josh Saunders has seen the news reports, but he is still unprepared when it happens to him. One minute he’s arguing with his mother’s boyfriend and the next, he’s looming over the man, blood dripping from his claws—he has transformed into a mountain lion.

When Josh switches back to his human body, he knows his life has changed forever. He has become a Wildling. Pursued by both government authorities and criminal factions, Wildlings must hide their newfound abilities to avoid being locked up for study and experimentation. When an accidental betrayal reveals Josh’s secret, his carefully constructed cover is ripped apart, forcing his friends to intervene. They must grudgingly put their trust in other Wildlings—and, most challenging, each other— if they ever hope to save him.

5.0 out of 5 stars unputdownable! 25 May 2012
By J. Turner TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE

It's always a pleasure to receive a new Charles de Lint, and this is no exception. One of his young adult tales, it deals with Josh, an adolescent who lives for his band and 'boarding'. His home life is poor, although he loves his mother, the men in her life often cause him grief. The latest boyfriend, though, gets a shock when he attacks him, for Josh changes into a mountain lion. Josh is one of a new breed of children known as 'wildlings' and as he embarks on this terrifying new life he mst find a way to control his power whilst evading the sinister research corporation who wants to analyse him, the FBI and the Elders who have brought this power into the world. As usual, Charles de Lint spins a great story, bringing the best out of his adolescent characters and not shirking the issues of sex, gang culture, race and politics. I really enjoyed it and have started reading all his other works in order! Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wildlings 28 Nov 2012

I loved this book. Charles de Lint writes of the extraordinary so that, like Stephen King,it seems perfectly acceptable.
SPOILERS--In this book,a small town suddenly find their young people are finding they can release their inner animal.
Of course, then you get the inevitable bad guys(the men in black) who seem to want them.
Is it for security(a huge gorilla running around, for instance, would cause a security prob)or is it someone with an ulterior motive.
Three high school kids, friends since forever, find themselves mixed up in it when one of the changes and discovers his wildling nature.I hope he writes morelike this and turns it into a series.
Great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, but I didn't love it 3 Sep 2012

I am a huge fan of Charles De Lint, in fact he would rate amongst my favourite authors.

I know that I am possibly being a little harsh in my critisism but I did not come to love the characters in this book as I have done in previous reads. I know that this book is aimed at a teenage market, but it didn't draw me in the way that books like Moonheart, The little Country and Some place to be Flying have in previous years.

I liked it, but I didn't love it. Please give us some more books about the loveable characters of Newford.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adventure! 23 April 2012

While Under My Skin is a departure from the Newford world that Charles de Lint's readers have come to love, it does not disappoint. A fast-paced adventure, it unfolds quickly but with a depth to the characters that brings them to life and draws the reader in to share their adventures as if right there with them. In addition, De Lint has a way of making the reader think about deeper moral issues without preaching. As a 63-year old reader who has followed de Lint's books for 26 years, I'm eagerly awaiting his next offering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful DeLint urban fantasy 15 April 2012
By Lynn M. Hogarth - Published on Amazon.com

Under My Skin is the first book in a new series. Current De Lint fans will be delighted with it and this series should make him a lot of new fans as well. It is a fast-paced and engaging story and I could not put my Kindle fire down - finished it in record time. It will be hard to wait to find out how these characters, of whom I am already very fond, evolve - so the minute volume 2 comes out, I'm on it! I was delighted to find that these books fit tidily into the DeLint mythos - from the initial blurbs I wasn't sure. But the story takes one of my favorite parts of the mythology - the animal people - and runs it in a whole new direction. And that's all the plot hints you get from me - time to buy the book and find out for yourself.
