...Irish fiddle recordings I've ever heard. As a big fan of acts like Natalie MacMaster, Altan, and Lunasa, I was a little skeptical when I first heard of Hayes years ago. True, he may not have the quick, edgy riffs of MacMaster, or the great percussion of the latter two, but Martin Hayes brings a depth to this set of 13 tunes that is rare in Celtic music today. As he is only accompianied by a guitar, "Under The Moon" is a showcase for Hayes' great technique, touch, and dynamics. This is not so much a quick, flashy, "barnburner" affair as it is a slower, mellow, thoughtful suite of pieces. No question- 5 stars.
