MARY COUGHLAN SINGS JAZZ, BLUES, MODERN, EVERYTHING IN A HUSKY, SMOKY, LAID BACK STYLE. IF YOU LIKE HER WORK YOU ARE SURE TO LOVE THIS ALBUM. LATE NIGHT MUSIC.....NOTHING UNCERTAIN ABOUT THIS ALBUM.
I saw Mary Coughlan numerous times during the late 80's and early to mid 90's. Her live show was fantastic and she oozed charisma. Her voice is an instrutment of beauty. Her albums in general don't match the live act.Apart from the first album which is raw and unrefined and all the better for it many of the others were overproduced. This album was the closest she came to commercial success. It is still overproduced in places but is still a great album. The stand out track is 'Leaf from A Tree' but there is no duff filler on the album at all. Buy it and discover one of Irelands best vocalists.
Lots of superbly emotional singing from a great artist. Genuine as the day is long; no bubblegum here! Heartbreak hotel is where Mary spends a lot of her time .lol! This album was rumoured to be pop songs; but Mary never sings pop; she always sings the Blues. Great stuff!
Bought this to replace my vinyl copy which was water-damaged. Not Mary's best album but it was really good to hear it again, especially The Whisky Didn't Kill the Pain..
