Product Description

Roderica Delamore has a "gift." Cursed with the unwanted ability to hear the thoughts of others, she is dedicated to raising her family's prize thoroughbreds and resigned to living without love. But one man's mind is inexplicably closed to her: a mysterious Irish rogue who may be the lover she has been dreaming of her entire life.

They call Faelan Savigar "the Devil Earl" -- a handsome, impoverished lord damned by dark rumor and whispered innuendo. But the secrets Faelan hides within are what stir Roderica's desire -- and her need to experience the intoxicating ecstasy of his kiss. But be he liar, swindler, or worse, Roderica knows she can have no other -- and she will trust this enigmatic stranger with her life ... and her heart. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Laura Kinsale brings to the printed page a depth of talent rarely seen in the romance genre. Her characterization of Roddy is exquisitely drawn, and she uses Roddy's "gift" as a wonderful excuse to explore the human psyche. The wonderfully erotic wedding night scene and the mythical and mystical elements of the story are added bonuses. When I first picked us this book many years ago and read the back cover, I almost didn't buy it because of its improbable storyline--how glad I am that I gave it a chance! After fifteen years of reading romances, this book continues to be one of my top favorites.

Pure Enchantment! 13 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the second Kinsale book i've read, the first being the also excellent Flowers in the Storm [get past the cover, and you'll be fine]. Both these books cast their spell and left me numb with the intensity of the characters feelings. Her books are not light hearted jaunts but will tug at your heartstrings and leave a lasting impression of passion and emotion. Be sure you haven't anything important planned for the next day or so after starting the book because it won't leave you with much free thought until you break the spell and finish the book. The enchantment of Ireland and faery folk were especially attractive to me.

Good Read 3 Jan 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When I first heard about this book, I wasn't sure about the mythical elements in it, it seemed like just another unlikely story, but since I have liked every novel by Laura Kinsale I have read, I gave it a try and it really paid off.
This novel contains one of the most erotic scenes I have ever read. The way Roddy is seduced by her husband in her wedding night is just wonderful and I have read it again and again. The way he manages to take away her fear and anxiety and at the same time awakens her passion is very well drafted.
This scene is one of the highlights of the novel. Antother thing I really liked about the book is the way Roddy cannot 'read' her husband the same way she can 'read' everybody else and therefore has to rely on trust and on using her intuition rather than her magic ability to understand him. This makes the relationship between the two main characters very realistic.
This is a very good read, a book to be re-read again and again.
