Book Description

UNCERTAIN MAGIC by New York Times bestselling author Laura Kinsale Roderica Delamore is an heiress and should be a prize catch-except for an embarrassing and magical secret. She has the ability to hear the thoughts of those around her and has never been able to trust anyone as a result. So she dedicates herself to raising her family's prize thoroughbreds and resigns herself to a life without romance-until she meets Faelan Savigar, the Earl of Iveragh, a mysterious, roguish Irishman whose thoughts are entirely closed to her unusual perceptions and she discovers that she has finally met the man she has been waiting her whole life to discover. He is called "the Devil Earl," and is as enigmatic to everyone else as he turns out to be to Roderica. He is also impoverished, damned in society by dark rumor and innuendo, and, for all she knows he could be a liar, a swindler or worse but his secrets stir her and Roderica is prepared to entrust her life-and her heart-to an enchanting stranger. Laura Kinsale is the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of THE SHADOW AND THE STAR, SEIZE THE FIRE, THE PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT, FLOWERS FROM THE STORM, FOR MY LADY'S HEART, and THE DREAM HUNTER. She and her husband divide their time between Santa Fe and Dallas. SHADOWHEART won the Romance Writers of America Rita Award for best long historical romance of 2004. Kinsale also won best romance novel of 1990 for PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT. Kinsale was 1987-1988 Career Achievement Award Winner from Romantic Times Magazine. She was also Regency Historical Romance 2004 Career Achievement Award Winner from Romantic Times Magazine and the Innovative Historical Romance 1994 RRA Awards Nominee for Best Historical Romance Author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual and captivating . . . 3 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Laura Kinsale brings to the printed page a depth of talent rarely seen in the romance genre. Her characterization of Roddy is exquisitely drawn, and she uses Roddy's "gift" as a wonderful excuse to explore the human psyche. The wonderfully erotic wedding night scene and the mythical and mystical elements of the story are added bonuses. When I first picked us this book many years ago and read the back cover, I almost didn't buy it because of its improbable storyline--how glad I am that I gave it a chance! After fifteen years of reading romances, this book continues to be one of my top favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Enchantment! 13 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the second Kinsale book i've read, the first being the also excellent Flowers in the Storm [get past the cover, and you'll be fine]. Both these books cast their spell and left me numb with the intensity of the characters feelings. Her books are not light hearted jaunts but will tug at your heartstrings and leave a lasting impression of passion and emotion. Be sure you haven't anything important planned for the next day or so after starting the book because it won't leave you with much free thought until you break the spell and finish the book. The enchantment of Ireland and faery folk were especially attractive to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read 3 Jan 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When I first heard about this book, I wasn't sure about the mythical elements in it, it seemed like just another unlikely story, but since I have liked every novel by Laura Kinsale I have read, I gave it a try and it really paid off.
This novel contains one of the most erotic scenes I have ever read. The way Roddy is seduced by her husband in her wedding night is just wonderful and I have read it again and again. The way he manages to take away her fear and anxiety and at the same time awakens her passion is very well drafted.
This scene is one of the highlights of the novel. Antother thing I really liked about the book is the way Roddy cannot 'read' her husband the same way she can 'read' everybody else and therefore has to rely on trust and on using her intuition rather than her magic ability to understand him. This makes the relationship between the two main characters very realistic.
This is a very good read, a book to be re-read again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is just WONDERFUL!!! 14 Jun 2009
By Kristin
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
....and I haven't even finished it yet. I am trying to miser it but it doesn't work. When I am away from it I think "how can I get back to it?". I read only historicals and therefore read Amazon reviewers and I thank the reviewer of another book for mentioning this one, as so often happens. The story is fascinating and Faelan made the blood run faster in my veins. Roderica is made for the hero, obviously, but I don't want my book to end!! I know I will read this book again and again.

I will search for more of this author's work right now.

You must read it to feel it!!!!
