Some Knights are better than others!22 Jan 2013

Note: This is a digest sized format (smaller than a comic) and that, a couple of times, makes it difficult to read when lengthier content is displayed.
There are two things that I like about this collection: 1) it feels truly like a throwback to the John Byrne/ Chris Claremont X-Men. It is lively, fun, and a bit wild but in a "what the heck" sort of way that helps the reader just enjoy it and not take it too seriously and (2) the art is in the style of classic Dave Cockrum. I've always loved the way that he draws his forms.
So what do you get in this collection? A fantasy storyline about the "Knights of Hykon" who are super powerful beings who have destroyed worlds and the X-Men don't overcome them with fists but with canniness; Nightcrawler, one of my personal favorite characters, is given a good deal of time in this arc. Another solo storyline of Banshee dealing with usurpers to his castle. And a throwback reprinting of Black Tom Cassidy & Juggernaut taking on Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Banshee at Cassidy Keep in Ireland. If you like (and even miss) the "classics" this should appeal to you.
Collecting Uncanny X-Men: First Class # 5-8 and X-Men (circa the 1980s) # 102-3.
