FANTASTIC !!
After hearing uncaged ,luckily was in paris and saw her live at Sunset club (or was it sunside ?) in boulevard sevastopol-- she's even better live - more "uncaged" you might say with charming stage presence and the band obviously enjoying themselves -
Album is superb and most tracks are self composed . Tight rhythm section grounds Sophie alour's imaginative and superb tenor sax tones - great album.
from the energetic and drivng title track , through the descriptive "nursey rhyme" (titled "comptine" in french) to the 2 part "haunted" with its almost rock-like hooks yet effortlessly complex musicality theres a light relief with the frothy laurent Coq "sparkling water" before the wonderfully evocative " nos cindres" ( our ashes ) which starts with a lovely musical phrase repeated with a simple but beautiful sax overlay . The albim finishes with the ballad "Goodbye" which displays this french lady's beautful tone and expressive playing which left me wanting more - ----------so then i went and bought her debut album "Insulaire" ------ less rocky but beautiful melodic jazz with that lovely tone again.
But best of all , if you can , see her Live . - its worth it !!
