Well these guys have been a group of some of the best going recently in the slightly saturated power metal genre, as there have been too many bands a plenty out there with nothing to say or stand for. There was a time before the turn of the century where Primal fear could have been guilty of similar crimes in the ID dept.- with their die hard allegiances and near downright worship plagiarism of heavy metal icons Judas priest; though to be fair and honest here Judas has always been a beacon of shining light and inspiration to countless other bands as well so I'll give 'em that. I guess the band that truly got onto the podium and got the respect they deserved after the fantastic "Nuclear fire and Black sun" would be Primal fear and they are certainly at times a monumental band.

So it's slightly disappointing then that Unbreakable pretty much just follows it's predecessor along the same tight, narrow musical pathway to power metal sufficiency with little expansion or musical adventure. I can't help but feel here however that this band with this outing have seemingly settled for- good:- like they just hung up their boots and put their tools down when plenty more was still left in the tank. I have to admit however it is a pretty watertight album with virtually nothing bringing the side down what-so-ever; but conversely, nothing out of the ordinary at all is brought to the forefront here to do any of the spicing up. The songs themselves are pretty good, say.. above the usual "standard fare" power rock, but the driving inspiration to elevate them into the next league simply isn't there to do so. I'd have a tough time choosing a favorite off this album but if I was faced with a court order for not doing so I would probably have to nominate "Bad guys wear black" even if it does sound something like Kiss would blow-out after an afternoon spent with hot chicks in California sunset strip.

Unbreakable then is actually not a bad album, it's definitely one for the fans and to a push- one for metal fans who may have overlooked PF in the past and are looking for some good quality P-M; but since there is hardly anything here that is going to take anyone's breath away, as an album that simply does what it says on the tin it is probably for the most part of musical requirements, ample. There is however a downside though! In particular, for the people out there who search for the mind-blowing next release or the next modern classic to get steam-rolled by:- Unbreakable will unfortunately in that case not quite deliver: It is however a pretty good effort on a standalone merit and is definitely worth the look into. 3 stars.

After experimenting a little with their last couple of releases, Mat Sinner and co return with an excellent disc of rocking power metal, recalling the heights of early triumphs such as "Black Sun" and "Nuclear Fire". Armed with two new guitarists, both coming with impressive credentials, Primal Fear bash through a series of heavy yet melodic tracks that show just why they have become one of the most reliable bands on the circuit. Ralf Scheepers sounds fantastic, and the song writing itself is some of the band's strongest. "Unbreakable Part 2" is the best track here, with its kick ass riffwork and catchy chorus, while "Strike", "Give Em Hell" and the killer "Conviction" give up the goods in true old school fashion.

While there is so much choice in the metal world these days, you can't go wrong with a bit of Primal Fear. Anyone who has a passing interest in acts such as Judas Priest, Cage, or Sinner (naturally) needs "Unbreakable" in their collection. Recommended.

After so many albums and many years as a band, they still write great tunes. I know ,there isn't new stuff here ,but the songs are very enjoyable with great melodies.Way better then their earlier albums .They were filled with fillers and a few good tunes. Not this time. All the songs are great and fun to listen.
