5.0 out of 5 stars Slavery and dark enchantments abound!, 14 Oct 2003
What a useful product! Excellent quality of work throughout with something for everyone.

Anyone who is thinking of a campaign in the Near East would be well advised to get hold of a copy. The background is well thought out and evocative, the layout is clear, the sections dealing with the Red Wizards are especially useful even if you only use them as recurring villains elsewhere.

They only possible moans would be that the binding looks a bit weedy (mine is well used but still together however) and I feel that the character of the Red Nasty Guys has changed over the years. They used to be an evil force and now they are sharp businessmen. I suspect this is just a personal perception thing.

In short, not vital to a FR campaign but a welcome and useful extra tome none the less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extensive and useful!, 8 Mar 2006
This book filled in all my gaps of knowledge that the Campaign book left, going into a greater detail and depth which had proved spot-on for working on my campaign. The writing is clear and highly readable and the book is well laid-out, referencing itself very well where necessary.

My one slight criticism is the lack of professionalism using repetition of writing techniques poorly - could have done with an extra proof-read. This is nit-picking, however. The book covers Thesk, Rashemen and Thay well and the Prestige classes are very good. Good stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for the DM, 31 Dec 2006
This book gives lots of information about geography, history, people and personalities of the Unapproachable East. Of special interest were the maps, town descriptions, new monsters, and NPC blocks. Ultimately, I expect a book like this to give me all the basic knowledge currently available about the area in question, plus new details, plus history updates since the last publication - and it fulfilled all these criteria. I found it to be extremely helpful in running my FR campaign: with the wealth of information it contained, I never needed to bring the party beyond the Unapproachable East (barring one journey to the Outer Planes), because it show Rasheman, Thay, Aglarond, etc, to be *really* different from each other.
