Having been a big fan of Jane's first book, I was very excited to order this book and looked forward to reading how she'd got on since its publication. It was lovely to read about her experiences - a mixed bag indeed! - but I found myself feeling quite depressed when reading a lot of this book. Not because of her writing per se, but rather, the message that there are so few opportunities to meet men, and as you get older, the chances get fewer and fewer. I kept reading in the hope that there would be a happy ending - and I suppose that there was, in that Jane lets go of the need for physical intimacy. I did find this unconvincing though, as it's clear from most of the book that she was deeply in love with "Graham" and was still pining for him - despite the gulf in ages and his marriage to a woman of similar age to him, with whom he would have a family and a life.
Perhaps this book, and its predecessor, are a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of leaving it until your sixties before having a good sex life!!
