5.0 out of 5 stars An explosive rush of fresh-air., 3 Aug 2008
By Richard Hammond (St. Albans, UK) - See all my reviews

Absolutely brilliant - insane, funny, ridiculous and thrilling. The writer and artist play with conventions brilliantly: steam-punk gets a 1950s-meets-Futurama feeling, stereotypes are unveiled and then immediately twisted and the central characters are complex and engaging. The story-line is rock-solid too. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific newcomer, 6 Jul 2009

This book deservedly won an Eisner award last year(the comic world's highest honour), and hats off to Gerard Way. This is his first foray into comics, and he writes a taut, witty storyline. His characters are immediately memorable and largely likeable, in part because they are depicted so beautifully by Gabriel Ba, who draws like the lovechild of Kevin O'Neil and Mike Mignola. Recommended especially to those who enjoy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is this original comic's closest cousin.

Awesome stuff.

Cocky, colourful, and curiously well written for a rock-star-come-would-be-pensmith, or any one else for the matter. Read more
