Synopsis
In 1952, as a young British officer on active service in Malaya, Geoff Farrer is forced to shoot a wounded pregnant terrorist to end her agony. He does not know that he is being watched by the woman's lover who vows "to kill the bastard Englishman", but when he starts work as a rubber planter his life is threatened several times. The book is based on the experiences of the Thomases - Peter was mentioned in dispatches for his services to Malaya as a young soldier - and is published to mark the 50th anniversary of The Emergency.
