Applying a layer of ultrasound coupling gel between the Doppler sensor and tummy can ensure a clear signal for detecting the fetal heart beat. Doppler sound waves do not travel easily through the air and so without the use of coupling gel, high interference prevents a clearly audible sound.

This is the first time I've bought doppler gel as my doppler came with a small tube which went in no time!
I orderd this gel as it was cheap and the delivery charge was cheaper than one of the other suppliers on here. It arrived within a few days and went through my letterbox luckily! I suspected I'd have to go and pick it up from the local Royal Mail depot as I work full time, but it was so neatly packaged, it fitted perfectly in the letterbox.
The gel itself is fine. I'd buy it again from this supplier, but the bottle looks like it will last a while anyway, so I might not need to.

Great!!!! Helps pick up the heartbeat perfectly. Same type they use in the hospital and doctor surgery for ultrasounds and doppler use.

After reading other reviews we weren't convinced that it would be any good, but from 10 weeks we could hear a heartbeat and from 12 weeks we could hear movements.
The further along we have gone the more often and louder noises we could hear.
I can't stress enough what some other reviewers have said,
DON'T WORRY IF YOU DON'T HEAR ANYTHING EVERY TIME AS WHEN THE BABY MOVES INTO A NEW POSITION YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HEAR, THIS IS NORMAL.
It sometimes takes your midwife, using professional equipment, some time to find the heartbeat.
Overall a great product at a great price.

Just as I suspected.....
I use the gel for my heart rate monitor when training as I find it makes for more consistent operation of the transmitter belt, i.e. the pickup from my pule is much better. Read more

Does its job!
Don't know much about ultrasound gels but this one works perfectly fine with the fetal heart detector, it's not greasy and easy to remove
