5.0 out of 5 stars It worked for us - just make sure you read the instructions!, 23 Mar 2010
This review is from: Ultrasonic Dog Bark stop device
This product does work, and has worked for us and our dog, Maisy. There are a few other reviews on here that give low stars that seem to boil down to two points - saying it did nothing but a tiny beep, which didn't work; and saying it went off all of the time even while the dog wasn't barking. The simple way to address both of these concerns... READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! There is a testing mode that merely gives a small beep and NOT the ultrasonic sound that will train your dog - hence no effect. Secondly there are two settings for sensitivity. When I started using the collar, it did go off when my dog's address tag made a noise against the collar. Simply switching to less sensitive solved most of this. Occasionally it still goes off if my Dog does a big shake - I merely wait till we are out on our walk to switch it on and its fine (the reason I got the collar was Maisy tends to bark at other dogs while on the lead). The collar even while on ultrasound (which you can't hear) will also emit a small beep just to let you know it has activated. This beep has nothing to do with the noise that will affect the barking - it is just to tell you that it has done its job, and also that it is not going off continually (as that was a slight concern of mine as I din't want to distress my dog).

It did have a very good effect on my dog, from the 1st walk I used it on. There are the odd occasions where Maisy will still bark, but the threshold for her starting has got a lot better and most walks go along with none at all. Rather than being just about negative feedback, we have found that it merely nips the behavior in the bud, and she doesn't enter into an anxiety/barking cycle and seems to be a much happier more relaxed on walks for it. We are also much happier not having to hold her back/tell her off and have much better walks too! It virtually stopped the problem behavior over the course of about two weeks for us. It doesn't always happen straight away, but has a cumulative effect.

Couple things to note though - Dogs can be very crafty and my dog very quickly worked out that if she did a big shake at the start of the walk she could sometimes make the unit switch off. Fortunately there is an LED on the unit and it is very easy to periodically check the collar to make sure it is still switched on.

Secondly the batteries when they ran out proved quite hard to get hold of. In the end I had to order them online, but you can get them with a simple internet search.

All things considered, this collar has changed our walks from stressful to happy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me !, 5 Feb 2010
This review is from: Ultrasonic Dog Bark stop device
I've ordered 2 of these products. On the positive side they both arrived in good condition & very quickly.

However, I see no evidence that this device works. All it does is constantly beep when the dog moves around - even if you turn the noise feature off on the device. I wouldn't waste your money on this product as it simply has no effect on either of my dogs.

The first product broke very easily when I put the batteries in - so beware if you still proceed. The battery cover which you twist to secure the batteries is not very strong.

Whether it would work on other breeds I can't say - but I'd look elsewhere. I'm tempted to ask for my money back !
