I think the manufacturer is missing out by marketing this product as a smoke-alarm battery, as it has so many other uses! Lithium batteries have several advantages over alkaline ones- very long life, low self-drain, good low temperature performance (important in outdoor applications), and lightness (about 8g lighter than alkaline battery of same size). It is also reasonably priced.
I used one in my catflap, as I've often had problems with other types of batteries (rechargable & alkaline) failing in very cold weather, leaving my poor cat stranded outside & scratching to come in! Time will tell how long this battery will last, but it can't be much worse than the other types...

Brought these to replace the battery in a free issue Fire Brigade Alarm. I openned the alarm to be confronted by a label that said the battery coule not be replaced. Do not believe it drill out the pop rivets and remove the plastic that blocks access, you can now replace the battery. Have also replaced the batteries in my other store brought alarms. Can't comment on the life as I haven't had them 10 years yet.
