A simple digital soccer referee's watch 22 Jan. 2010

This is your standard rubberized outdoor watch. It seems to be able to handle some moisture well (ie., sweat from running as well as precipitation during games).

It is multi-function, but in practice you're not going to use all the fancy features when you're on the field.

The watch claims to have a beeper, but mine never makes any noise (thankfully! I don't want my soccer watch to beep). However, the documentation says it's supposed to beep (maybe with an option to turn the beeping off), so it just casts doubts on the overall quality of the device if the documentation & the product don't match up.

The LED isn't very bright, but I haven't ever needed it - I don't use the watch for anything but refereeing and you don't play without lights now do you? However if you wanted the light at other times you'd probably be disappointed with it.

It is relatively easy to read the watch when I'm on the field, and the buttons have to be firmly pressed to start & stop the timer, so I haven't yet had a case where the timer has accidentally started or stopped on me.

The soccer timer works well - it resets to 45:00 when you hold the timer button down for a second, otherwise the timer button starts the countdown. When it hits 00:00 it starts counting back up so you can see how much added time has been played. The watch comes with a 2nd "added time" timer, that you use whenever there's any play stoppage on the field for which you will add time at the end of the half. The theory is, any time you think you're in a situation that calls for time to be added, you trigger this 2nd timer to count up, then when you get near the end of the half you can look at your watch and see "oh! that's 2:37 of time we've wasted, so I'll add 2 or 3 minutes of added time to the game." Whether or not you use the 2nd timer is up to you, but it's nice to know it's there.

This watch is functional but not stellar - surely there has to be a better ref's watch out there? I'm giving this watch 3 stars out of 5 due to the shortcomings I've mentioned above.

Love it 11 Jun. 2011

This watch is perfect for soccer and maybe some other sports too. True story: Last night I refereed a game that had a injury delay late in the second period. I started the count up timer and then when everything was reset stopped it. One team broke the 1:1 tie with literally 1 second left in extra time. How did I know? Because of this nice little watch. The goal, the beep, the whistle all in bang-bang sequence. I have never has such an exciting finish and been so sure that I got the extra time right.

Good ref watch - a few annoying features 29 Aug. 2011

I purchased this watch last week and used it on an adult game and 2 tournament games. The watch works well. I like the single noise beep reminder at 30' and 15'. The stoppage time clock feature is neat and I'm sure it'll come handy. Great watch for the price.
Two minor annoying things:
1. When the countdown reaches 30 seconds, the watch beeps 10 times 4 short beeps. It feels like it lasts for the full 30 seconds and it's an overkill; one series of 4-5 beeps would probably be enough. The instructions state that pushing any button will stop the alarm. I tried pushing the screen light button (right below the screen) but it didn't stop the sound.
2. In a puzzling feature, the countdown timer can be set up to 99 minutes. As most of us referees work games of varying length, the process of resetting the watch from 45' to 30' (like going from a U18 to a U12 game) requires scrolling all the way to 99 then from 1 to 30. It seems trivial but it's unnecessary as anything longer than 45' in soccer is waste.

What a disappointment 9 Jan. 2014

Here's what you get when you buy a watch designed by guys who never actually refereed. This thing is somewhere between awkward and stupid in it's design. It counts down ONLY, not up. Kind of counterintuitive to the game of soccer. It has a LOUD alarm that goes off for the final 15 seconds of any period you're timing. Plenty of time for every player on the field to hear it and turn to you and yell "end the game already!" So much for adding extra time. Oh but then a second timer goes off and counts UP - for extra time only.

It is not easy to program. Took me weeks of carrying the instructions around in my bag. Never did figure out how to make the backlight go on, which was more than a small problem reffing at night. And, minor but SO annoying, for some reason the start button is NOT in the upper right. It's in the upper left, unlike any other stopwatch I've ever used, which means you have to reach your hand over the face of the watch to stop and start it, blocking your view.

But best of all - I purchased this watch in April of 2013. Return warrantee ended May of 2013. It is now December 2013 and the watch is DEAD. Took it to a watch shop to replace the battery, and they informed me that it was not the battery; the watch is defective. Well it is now a defective piece of junk cluttering up the bottom of my referee bag. I'll wear it as my backup watch this weekend hoping that none notices one of my watches doesn't work, and I'll rely, as usual, on the trusty Timex on my other wrist to do a proper job of keeping time until I have time to replace this waste of money.

Ultrak soccer watch 25 May 2011

Seems to work pretty well. The biggest complaint I have is that it has a preset of 45 minutes, and to change to 30 minutes you have to go up through 90 a minute at a time, which is a long tedious process. So basically with short games I've started the watch ahead of time to let it run down, and then improvise at the second half
