Ultra Motor A2B metro
Choose from either cruse or assisted-cycling modes.

What does riding the A2B feel like?

Take an A2B electric bike for a spin and you'll feel it immediately - the freedom that comes from being able to choose to pedal or cruise under power. Everything's easier, more fluid and more fun. Short cut or scenic route, now there's a new way to travel. The ride has silent acceleration, so even when you're at full throttle, it's the design that speaks volumes, not the motor.

How fast does the A2B Metro go and how far?

The A2B motor can assist you up to a top speed of 20mph without pedaling (depending on rider weight and terrain) and take you up to 20 miles on a fully-charged battery (also depending on rider weight and terrain.). If you chose to pedal to extend your range, the A2B Metro comes with a Shimano Alivio with 7-speed twist shifter giving you plenty of pedaling options no matter the terrain you're enjoying.

How does the A2B Metro handle hills?

The powerful 500-watt motor provides responsive acceleration and tackles hills with minimal pedaling - even the rolling hills of San Francisco where our company is based.

Do I need a license, registration and insurance?

The A2B Metro is regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission as a bicycle, so riders are not required to have a DMV license, registration or insurance.

Does the A2B Metro come with a range of accessories?

We have a range of accessories to meet your lifestyle needs (shopping, commuting, recreational, cruising, etc.) Available online and in-stores shortly. We recommend Kryptonite U-locks for our bikes.

How do I charge the A2B Metro?

Recharging is as easy as charging a cell phone or laptop. Simply plug into any 110 volt outlet. The A2B Metro lithium ion battery technology recharges fully within 3-4 hours and holds its charge more efficiently than lead-based battery technology at a cost of 10 cents (national average).

What type of battery does the A2B Metro use?

We've selected a high-capacity Sanyo advanced lithium ion battery for it's best energy-to-weight ratio and slow loss of charge. Our primary battery is fully-integrated into the downtube. A second battery can be added to the rear rack doubling travel distance.

How do I know I am running low on power?

A state-of-charge indicator near the right hand throttle indicates how much power you have left.

What is the manufacturer's warranty?

Lifetime frame, 2 year motor warranty, 1 year warranty for the battery, standard bike parts (except tires, tubes, seat fabrics, grips, chain, cables and brake pads.)

How does the A2B Metro help the environment?

The A2B Metro is 100% electric and delivers zero emissions. It uses nominal amounts of electricity less than 1KWh per charge.

Great Bike 7 April 2011
Get comfortable I have a lot to say.

I have had my a2b for about a year and a half now and I was happy to spend the money on it that I got from selling my car since I lost my licence(due to illness) so the bike is my sole means of transport and I have been very happy with it.

The Good

Unlike the majority of users I live out in the country, 7 miles from the nearest town, amongst a lot of very big hills (several 80m variations in height on the OS map).

I can happily do the 14 mile round trip with the throttle on full, continually, with a relatively steady easy peddle. I'm yet to take the battery down sufficiently to see the red light flash, which I think means there's 10-20% battery left. I also use the "boost" button for a lot of the journey.

Just for reference I weigh about 10.5 stone, carry about 4-5kg shopping and mainly ride on country roads. It's been a miserable winter so I haven't been out on it as much as I would like but with the weather getting better I'll be out all the time.

After a fair bit of research I got a weeride baby seat (£70'ish) which comes with oversized bolts which just make it round the frame and its been great. Be warned however I am short 5'5.5" (the .5 matters at this height) and my knees are precariously close to hitting the bottom of the wee ride. If you're any taller you should think about an alternative.

The Bad

The down sides of the bike are the weight I can lift it in and out the car but I doubt my wife could.

If I had the chance to talk to the a2b people I would ask that they tweaked a few things but nothing major:

The power indicator is a bit too basic, it would be really nice to have more of an idea of range left in the battery.

Some of the little plastic power covers are too flimsy and I've already broken one off (though this has no real bearing on the bike)

I'd like to see a nice set of rugged tyres, as I've mentioned I live in the country, but doubt many other would be interested.

I wrote all this because I wish someone had given an actual working account of the bike before I brought it then justifying the purchase would have been less arduous. It's a lot of money and when you're not 100% sure so you need reassurance.

In summary it's been a great wee bike and has given me back a lot of the freedom I've lost over the last few years.

brilliant bike 17 Sep 2011
Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Standard Lock with EZMount Bracket
excellent product.
very solid build quality but it is heavy.
also attracts alot of attention everywhere you go so make sure you have good security especially in the city. bikeregister it and invest in good locks+ chains not the sort you get for a normal bicycle. you get a set of keys to turn the battery on which is very useful but it would be nicer located closer to the handle bars. excellent alternative to public transport or motorbike/scooter that have are ever increasing in cost. i also dont have access to showers at work and would look stupid in those tight cycling shorts so it was ideal for me to invest in a bike like this.
initially I got a lot of stick for it at work but once they tried it everyone wanted one and you would too.
thanks

Superb machine but you need to by locally from an electric transport / bike shop for expert support and back up. The online sellers generally cannot offer practical support if it goes wrong.
Otherwise delighted - faster than many petrol powered mopeds and a lot cheaper to run.
