5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah Baby! Yeah!! 1 May 2003
By J.V.
Format:Audio CD
A great compilation for any lovers of lounge, swing or melodic music. Anyone who has previously bought from the ultra lounge collection will know that their quality does not disappoint and this is no exception. This compilation features great tracks from the likes of Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett, Louis Prima, Bobby Darin et al. There are also some tracks that where nice to hear again such as the rousing danke schoen by Wayne Newton and the smooth tones of Mel Tormes games people play. All in all a great buy

3.0 out of 5 stars Ultra Lounge Hits The Jackpot With Vegas Baby! 27 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is another great CD from the Ultra Lounge stable with tunes with a lucky/games/money theme just perfect for playing loud and singing loud to! Tracks like Bobby Darin's Once In A Lifetime and Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual demand a lung-busting accompaniment and Nat and Dean just can't lose. Peggy Lee's version of Big Spender is mildly disappointing but the welcome inclusion of two Louis Prima tracks has to be a winning move. The inside notes are fab with a real '50s glamour feel that make you want to put on your finery and throw those dice. Is this a winner? You bet baby!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lady Luck is with Capitol's new Ultra-Lounge CD! 26 Sep 2002
By Mark Savary - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Although the Lounge revival has (sadly), faded from its heights of the late 90's, Capitol thankfully hasn't jumped ship on us martini swillers. "Vegas Baby" is a brand new offering in their Ultra-Lounge series (File under: LOUNGE).

The Special Edition disc has a green felt cover, with a roulette wheel toy in the center that has the Ultra-Lounge logo on it (it doesn't spin; it's more like one of those Cracker Jack toys where you tip the game to move a silver ball around). The toy is fun, but makes you wonder how you'll stack it on the shelf with your other CDs.

Look at this Loungey line-up: Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Wayne Newton, Count Basie, and even Tom Jones! Loius Prima and Keely Smith sing one of their classic standards, and Dino and Sammy are right on the money. You'll be pulling right into Swanksville, baby!

The only thing missing here (and this is a big-time mystery!), is why there's no Frank on this disc. Sinatra's "Luck, Be a Lady" would have been perfect, and even if there's no Frank, the song itself belongs on this album. This oversight is pretty major, and takes the fizz right out of your club soda. For shame, Capitol!

Even so, this ain't no sucker bet, pally. Roll them dice, order this CD, and Lady Luck will be at your side all night!

4.0 out of 5 stars CD-ROM drive 9 Jan 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just wanted to comment on the issue raised by the previous reviewer about whether or not this disc plays in computers- I bought this CD, and it DOES play in my computer's CD-ROM drive, so it apparently works with some computers and not with others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Swank... 26 Sep 2002
By Meredith Hazen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I'm a big fan of the Ultra-Lounge series, especially the vocal and tv-themed issues. "Vegas, Baby!" continues the fine Ultra-Lounge (Grammy-winning) tradition of outrageous packaging and 60's cheeseball music. If you like "Swingers," the Rat Pack, or the decadence of Vegas and its showtune-style in general, this is the CD for you.

No album with the name "Vegas" in the title would be complete without the vocal stylings of Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Tom Jones, or, of course, Wayne Newton. Yep, we've got "Danke Schoen," we've got the quintessential Tom Jones Vegas tune "It's Not Unusual," and we've got the "theme song" from the original "Ocean's Eleven": Dino singing "Ain't That a Kick In the Head."

The only downside is that this album is similar in theme and overlapping in tunes with the "Wild, Cool & Swingin'" albums that Ultra-Lounge has previously put out. I own both of those, but I thought there was enough new music to make this purchase worthwhile.

This is the soundtrack for cheesy, wonderful, 60's Vegas. Plus, the "Limited Edition" version you're looking at has a fuzzy craps-table felt exterior with a little roulette wheel in the center. All this and a Bobby Darin bonus track. "It is betting time!"
