You are right, That's unbelievable! But it's out in Germany (there BRs are more expensive and even "Lola runs" isn't out yet!) http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002NTFIXA?ie=UTF8&tag=bluray-de-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1638&creative=6742&creativeASIN=B002NTFIXA If you don't mind the german writings on cover and booklet. I got it on my local Mediamarkt for 20 Euros. Good luck! I bought so many BluRays on Amazon.uk with german audio that aren't out yet in Germany or only for the doubled price. So it's time to give back to british people! :)
Interesting. So it _is_ a European version you got, or just an import that's had the cover texts translated to German? What about region codes, or what sort of player are you using for Blu-Ray? Any problems?
Honestly I hadn't time to watch it yet. I'm using Panasonic DMP-BD 30 with firmware update from time to time since May 2008. And I never had any problems. I guess if it's published in the UK one glory day that will be the same discs! It seems out on Amazon.de directly so check out shops here: http://www.dvd-palace.de/datenbank/blu-ray/53353.html or here: http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-filme/harry-potter-und-der-stein-der-weisen-ultimate-edition-blu-ray-disc or visit Saturn or Media Markt on Berlin Alexanderplatz, I saw them there for 20 Euros each recently.
Ok, so it appears that a multi-regional version does exist, then. That means it's _not_ the same version as the one at amazon.com (USA) since according to the info their version is region A only. The plot thickens indeed... let us know please once you do test actually _playing_ your copy, would be _very_ helpful! :)
here's a critical review: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/2712/harrypotter_sorcerers_ultimate.html that helps to make a decision. and it's possible that the US version is region free (over the years I experienced that amazon.com always says Region Code 1 or A but it's not always true). Have a look on the back cover on this site: http://www.axelmusic.com/productDetails/883929070763 and shame on them, if they publish a remastered version after the ULTIMATE!!!! Good luck and merry christmas!
Well, frohe Weihnachten to you too (I guess I failed to mention I speak german, but oh well, this is supposed to be an english forum I guess), and thank you so, so much for your invaluable input - and obvious research invested! All those links have been most helpful. As for that big 'region' issue, I think I'm now actually leaning towards that german version you pointed out in the beginning after all. Not only because we _know_ it's got european region (as opposed to 99% sure on the other one), but also it appears to include far more language options..and I do quite like that - Happy Holidays!! :)
But if the English soundtrack is the American release and nothing has been done for us in Blighty yet, surely the dialogue will feature the phrase "sorceror's stone"! Won't that bug the hell out of you?
Not really, and since I've never seen an american version of this film I actually find that to be an interesting thing to look for. I mean, they shot all those scenes twice, so there's an odd change of slightly different performances between each version, could make for an interesting comparison. But of course I'm still hoping there will be a _proper_ Brit Ultimate at some point!
I'm living outside Germany (and outside UK too, for that matter), so I'm having a hard time finding a place that'll ship this to me. Amazon.de might be the safest bet there, but that seems to be costing me some 50 euros if I go with them. Any chance you know other places to buy from that aren't quite that costly and still ship to Iceland?
"But if the English soundtrack is the American release and nothing has been done for us in Blighty yet, surely the dialogue will feature the phrase "sorceror's stone"! Won't that bug the hell out of you?"
Well, I bought the version from amazon.de after all, and somewhat to my surprise it _is_ the European (i.e. "philosopher"!) version in the audio! So that makes it even more baffling why this didn't get a local British release. I mean, they only have to take _those_ discs like I got, put them in the wraps & covers from the 'Import' and it's all there ready to go !!!
