Format: Paperback
The idea of a Ford supercar may seem strange but in the 1960s, the GT40 won the Le Mans 24 Hours Race in four consecutive years.

Nearly 40 years later, Ford decided to revive the spirit of the GT40 with the all new GT to sell for a bout £120,000 when the Aston DB9 went for £103,000 and the Lamborghini Gallardo for £117,000. Those prices are according to the Autocar road test included in this book.

Brooklands have brought together a collection of articles and road tests for both cars. About three quarters of the 200 pages are from the 1960s and the remainder from 2003 to 2006 looking at the new car or the original with the benefit of hindsight. The last 40 or so pages are in colour and the remainder in black and white.

As with all the Brooklands books, the colour photos present the car in a much better way. Unfortunately detail is too easily lost in the subtle shades of grey in the B&W reproductions.

I'm surprised another reviewer suggests the book is small. It is packed with information although inevitably there is considerable repetition as each article was originally written to standalone.

What you have is automotive history gradually revealing itself to you and it's fascinating to read with the benefit of hindsight.

The book isn't perfect but I recommend it to anyone who loves classic sports cars.

bought as a gift for a friend. He is very pleased with this book, and is now considering buying diecast models of GT40 as a result. :)

Very informative book. I have read about 12 books on the GT40 so do know a lot about these cars.

Nice look back at the Iconic Ford GT! 25 Mar. 2010
By Howard Weinstein - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a solid historic collection of contemporary articles from various car magazines covering the iconic Ford GT40 in all its incarnations. Selections from American and British magazines cover the more than 45 years since Ford first introduced the racing GT40 prototype at the New York Auto Show in 1964, all the way up to the road-going Ford GT supercar of 2005. Photos and graphics are well-reproduced.

There have been many excellent recent books on the GT40, but it's fun to read the original source material written by automotive magazine journalists at the time Ford first challenged Ferrari for supremacy on the world's race tracks, culminating with four consecutive wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966-69.

For anyone who was a racing fan in the 1960s -- or a student of that era today -- this is an enjoyable addition to your bookshelf.

Unique GT40 reference 27 Jun. 2010
By LJ Haasbroek - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a large collection of newspaper and magazine articles featuring the Ford GT40 super car from 1964 to the recent past. It is not your typical coffee table book which is so often published on the GT40. Rather it's a reference book full of substance, useful to anyone wanting to know more detail about this legend. Articles cover the GT40 on the American circuit and Le Mans in Europe. Contents span popular press as well as technical press. Understandably due to the book format only about a quarter of the contents is in colour - so get that coffee table book as well to compliment this unique reference book!

HUGE hit for a Christmas gift! 5 Jan. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
My step father-in-law is going to build a GT40 kit car and we were stumped over what to get him for Christmas. I happened upon this book in a search and bought it on a whim. He was THRILLED. He said people reference this book often on the discussion forums he frequents and he had previously been unable to find it in bookstores. Needless to say, he spent the rest of the afternoon ignoring everyone ;-).
