Good Old Classic 6 Mar 2010

I am a huge Mortal Kombat Fan, have been since the first ever MK. and yes this game did impress me.

yes their is no practice mode, but their never was a practice mode on the classics, you just hadda go out their and find the moves yourself! whereas while playing, not only does it have a list of all your special moves, it has the combinations to fatalities, just find the right distance and type it in fast, and enjoy the show.

the animation is nice smooth and clear due to it being a smaller resolution than a TV.

and when you get bored, just play the mini game, or just play with your friends! as they don't need the game to play.

recommended for all mk and beat em up fans.

Fun:
I've been lucky enough to play this game on import and I couldn't help feel a little disappointed but perhaps my expectations were too high. There are only 2 real modes. The single player game is based on Ultimate MK3 which plays fairly well, but shows its age. The only real slowdown comes when you uppercut someone to a higher level of a stage and there is a slight pause, but otherwise this is a decent conversion of the game you played several years ago on consoles... and that's the problem. There really isn't much new here.

The other mode is Puzzle Kombat which is taken from MK Deception on PS2. It's very similar to Capcom's Puzzle Fighter, so if you've ever played that you will know what to expect. This mode is a nice break from one on one fighting but it won't really occupy anyone for long periods.

The touch screen is barely used at all, and this game would work just as well with one screen. The top screen is used to display movelists for the character being used which is a nice touch but it's hardly pushing the barriers of originality.

If you're desperate to play MK online then this might be worthwhile buying but if you already own one of the PS2 versions then it's just a stripped down version. It's perfectly functional, but just a bit of a disappointment really.

Fun:
well id decided i wanted this game when i saw it was released and wrote it down on a list, and i took my ds with me when i went to buy it, and was playin it in a nearby cafe close to the game shop, and i loved it, i remember playin UMK on n64 back in the good old days wen i was about 10 years old, and it was seriously addictive event till today, now i have it on ds, the graphics are great and the animations dnt let up, and some parts of teh gameplay are better than back on n64. i played it for 2 weeks straight late into the nights, trying to get better because its terribly hard, and frustration and ur fingers will ache. so when i stopped playing after a while i got realy bad again, and its harder to pick up and play but its still addictice.
the download play is decent enough as well but cant do much, 4 characters to choose from and only one level, so that will keep you ocupied with a friend for maybe half an hour. i havnt played online because i cnat yet, but thats bound to be good.

i havnt played puzzle kombat much its not my thing but it has its up, the graphics on that.... :O absolutly... incredible, especialy for ds. seriously.
and last but not least
unlockable extras:
you can unlock special matches agaisn certain charatcers taht arent in the game at first, you can unlock fatalities videos, u can unlock charatcers for mortal kombat and puzzle kombat. and ofcourse endings.

so yeah if u have a ds, and u want to be ocupied, for single and mutliplayer.
u like puzzle games with amusing animations.
if u like challenges
if u like hidden unlockable
then buy this game, its deffintily worth the cheap price tagging it these days
