3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 10 Jan 2008

After reading the other reviews I bought this book but I have been very disappointed. It is very American - all the references are to American based websites and some of the marketing techniques and phrases used are just not transferrable to the UK.

I thought I was going to learn about writing great website copy but there is little about that. I also wanted to learn more about pay per click but I was disappointed with the lack of content and the US bias on this too.

If you want to market your company website globally then I guess there is a lot of very useful information but if you are a service based company operating in the UK, then I feel this book is of limited value. However, if you can look past the US references then it could be helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Exactly What it Promises in the Title, 7 Jan 2006

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques That Really Work (Paperback)
A claim that a paperback book is the "Ultimate Guide" on such a huge and constantly changing subject as electronic marketing is a bold one indeed, but I can confirm that's exactly what you'll get if you buy this book.

I have a habit of turning down the corners of the pages containing valuable information that I need to revisit but halfway through this book I realized I'd turned down the corners of every page except two.

Amazingly, Tom Antion has managed to write this so that it's both accessible for beginners whilst providing new thinking and tons of resources for those already in the game.

Any small business or individual can use this book to plan an internet marketing strategy that Tom has tried and tested and that obviously works extremely well. In fact, it's something that every small business MUST do these days in order to stay afloat and increase market share.

The style is accessible and humorous and Tom goes in depth about how to do things and shares information about the resources he uses, providing web addresses too.

I've spent a fortune on internet advice but this book - at an investment of only a few pounds - is the best money I've every invested.

Buy it, read it and follow it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business, 8 Oct 2007

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques That Really Work (Paperback)
The Ultimate Electronic Marketing for Small Business is the non-techies' guide to marketing on the internet. This book takes the reader through the basics of getting his or her own domain, finding someone to design a website, and creating dazzling website copy that will not only draw customers to their website but also encourages potential customers to spend money. Among the most emphasized topics are the benefits of viral marketing methods such email lists, newsletters, and free ebooks.

The Ultimate Electronic Marketing for Small Business takes a bit different approach from other internet marketing books. Most books of this type assume that the small business entrepreneur will be creating their business themselves from building the website through all aspects of promotions and sales. This book, however, illustrates that you can find individuals with specialized skills such as website design and ghostwriting to create professional results without spending a fortune. Moreover, in handing over these tasks, the entrepreneur can spend more time on activities that actually draw in more money. I personally like the hands on aspect of website design and writing but I respect that not everyone enjoys these tasks. Therefore, I believe that the hints in this book could be beneficial to those individuals.
