There have been many unofficial collections of Boney M rareties and long versions over the years, but this is the first time that many of these long versions have been released officially. To me, it's great to be finally able to buy some of these tracks on a legitimate release.
Firstly , 'Help Help' in its full 6 minute version is at last made available. This track was included only on the UK version of Boney Ms first album 'Take The Heat Off Me'. This replaced 'Baby Do You Wanna Bump'(Boney Ms first single) which was on the European version but could not be included on the UK edition as it was released on a different label in the UK.
The long versions of 'Rivers Of Babylon' and 'Mary's Boy Child' are worth a listen as is the full length version of 'Ribbons Of Blue' which was insanely edited on Boney Ms 1979 album 'Oceans Of Fantasy'.
This is a lovely collected of extended mixes well worth the budget price.

OK, I will admit to having a couple of Boney M L.P's during the 70's. Disco was in full swing, long version was the in format and everyone secretly either tapped their foot or was into the full "Studio 54" style of dance down at their local disco or club! In those days the original sound of Boney M was hip. Raunchy even! (Check out the first two album covers!) I think their earlier stuff was so much better than what they produced at the end of the decade. The first album in the UK had the brilliant "Help Help" as the last track on side one replacing the tedious "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" which for UK record label copyright issues couldn't be included on the UK version, which was to our good fortune because in it's place, we got "Help Help". It's an excellent piece of euro-disco stomp that I always loved on the L.P way back in 1976. On this CD it's presented first in it's full length album mix, which had me overjoyed! You can tell it's mostly the work of studio musicians, which sometimes works better than within the confines of a group. I bought this CD for that track alone!! How obsessed was I? But it does still hold up, especially the long drum solo that the track seems to be built around. Anyway, getting past my fav track the rest is quite a bit of fun and even interesting in places. The long version of "My Friend Jack" is excellent, producing some great guitar solos and none of it's 8 minutes is wasted. Same with "Gadda Da-Vida" which sounds nothing like Boney M, proving again that a book can't always be judged... The rest of the tracks are entertaining enough and deserve a listen if only for the sake of nostalgia. I hope there's a volume 2 (No nasty tacky remixes) just the original productions of tracks like "Daddy Cool", "Sunny" and "Ma Baker". None of the later remix stuff ever captured the joy of that 70's production.

Just bought this mainly for Help Help as so many reviews had said how good this track was. Gotta say - they're not wrong. Worth buying the CD just for it. But as a bonus you also get the almost 9 minute long Gadda-Da-Vida which is brilliant, although not sounding like a BoneyM track. Long versions of My Friend Jack, I See a Boat on the River, Gotta Go Home and Rivers of Babylon (I disagree - this wasn't sourced from vinyl) are outstanding. And the CD includes the longest version I have heard of Mary's Boy Child !! What more can you want?

great disc but out off all the favourites >>>NO>>>Rasputin 12 inch mix>>>WHY????
bought all three discs (vol 1/2/3) but alas still>> NO Rasputin !!!<<< I feel let down that's why I've only given 4 stars so if your looking for Rasputin I suggest you buy the 'Night time to Venus' cd that's a great disc and deserves the 5 stars.

A few points to bear in mind:

1)The sound has been squashed so everything sounds LOUD. This initially gives the impression of more detail and will sound good in the car, but in terms of at home listening gets tiring very quickly. There's no space in between the sounds. Shame.

2) Rivers of Babylon was sourced from vinyl - I could tell at first because there is a different tone on this to other tracks (could this have been improved at mastering stage?) and there are signs of vinyl wear/mistracking at various points. There is also some vinyl rumble on the fade out. Vinyl can sound great and warm, so I wonder if some of the sound issues on this are down to the turntable set up used, and maybe too much declicking/denoiseing???

Rivers of Babylon was the track I was looking forward to the most, and it is a tad on the repetitive side, but at least there is some new stuff to hear in there. It is also shows how very good Frank Farian/his engineers were at cut and splice editing.

3) Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord also contains in addition the alternate lyrics that can be heard on the Oh My Lord section on the 1988 remix LP.

Interesting to pick up for some rarities, but if the compression used is indicative of the remasters I'd suggest you stick to the vinyl and legally copy it to CD yourself. Make sure you keep the originals though to stay legal.

Just recently began exploring the world of Boney M, and I must say I'm thoroughly hooked on this band and can't fathom how I never did so back in the days when... not all their hits are in these three volumes (Rasputin for example), but what can be found is top notch Boney M. and these remixes cover their entire career. Well worth getting.
