'Ultimate Avengers: The Movie' is a Marvel feature-length animation based on the popular Avengers superhero combo, and more specifically, the comic book series 'The Ultimates', which reinvented the Avengers for the 21st century. It sees Marvel favourites Captain America, Iron Man, Nick Fury, Thor and the Incredible Hulk (among others) thrown together in a battle to save the Earth from an alien menace.
As with the rest of the animated Marvel features, the animation isn't significantly better than anything you'd find in an average kids' cartoon series, although this is probably the best of these features so far - the script is particularly good for a film of this kind, managing to effectively juggle several big characters (especially Steve Rogers / Captain America, who gets the lion's share of the character background) and hold together reasonably well as a coherent story. Die-hard Marvel fans may be disappointed if they've read 'The Ultimates', as this doesn't have the same kind of depth, and it does fall slightly awkwardly between the junior and adult audience, probably not quite satisfying either. It's certainly worth a look if Marvel Comics are your thing, though, and it will help pass the time before the Avengers make their live action big-screen debut.
