Product Description

Ultimate Ears super.fi 4vi Mobile Earphones for iPhone. Small form factor, lightweight. New tip and bore construction provide excellent comfort and fit. Ergonomic, stylish design and materials fashioned in bead blasted/polished, anodized gunmetal blue aluminum. In-ear fit and customizable ear tips offer 26 dB noise isolation from the environment for the ultimate listening experience. UE professional tuning and design create stage and studio quality sound from a single balanced armature.

Product Description

Inside the Super.Fi 4vi is a proprietary balanced armature speaker for a full spectrum audio experience. The proprietary armature is tuned for full and detailed bass while delivering crisp and clean highs. In addition, the noise isolating design reduces ambient interference and sound quality. The armature is embedded in an anodized aluminum housing that is both small and lightweight and is an aesthetic complement to the iPhone™. Accessories include a pocket-ready hard carrying case and a sound level attenuator. The sound level attenuator protects the listener’s hearing from unstable audio sources (e.g. commercial airplane sound systems).

3.0 out of 5 stars i would really give them 3 and 3/4 stars, 13 May 2008
By RezisluhA (New York, NY (formerly London, UK)) - See all my reviews
they are the coolest looking earphones i've ever seen or owned. however, it's not about looks, is it?

the sound isn't terrible but they aren't balanced either. i think the treble is too emphasized. they would be perfect to listening to audiobooks while flying overseas. musically i would choose Maximo V-mode or V-moda's (if you like your bass good and heavy).

plus 84 pounds is a bet hefty compared to maximo's price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy. Cable breaks. , 20 Jan 2009

Having got these headphones - I was unimpressed but happy with them.
For about 2 months, after then I had to hold the input jack into the iPhone for music to come out of the left headphone at all.
Soon it'd not work at all then I discovered that the cable was actually broken with the wires visible.
to replace them I'd need to call a US number and ship them off there at my own expense.
At which point they'd probably refuse service as the cable ISN'T PART OF THE WARRANTY!!

DO NOT BUY.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor build quality and indifferent mic performance, 5 Jan 2009
By Sukumar Natarajan - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought these from Amazon's US site a few months ago to replace my really excellent Etymotic ER6i which fell foul of my 1st gen iPhone's recessed headphone jack. My initial impressions were positive especially as the sound from these, though perhaps not quite as balanced as the Etymotic's, had much more presence.

However, within a couple of months of use the earbuds started to come stuck in my ear. This was extremely uncomfortable as the *only* way to get them out was to use some tweezers which I had to go purchase with the bud still stuck in my ear. My initial reaction to this was to replace the buds with an alternate pair and I found one in the supplied extras that fit more or less to the same comfort. Lo and behold within a few weeks of use the same problem occurred. I am an extremely careful user and my earphones have usually lasted 2-3 years before requiring replacement. I would however rate these as sub-par especially given my excellent experience with the Etymotic ones.

I should also mention that the mic performance (when the buds were not getting stuck in my ear) was somewhat indifferent and I had to unplug the headset on a number of occasions as the person I was speaking to could not hear me properly.

I have asked UE for a replacement which unfortunately means my shipping them off to California at my own expense. If the Etymotic HF2s weren't so dear I'd buy them at the drop of a hat.

UPDATE:
I got a new set from UE which developed exactly the same problem within a week of arriving. So my overall impression is that the build quality of these headphones is really poor - I have never had earphone tips getting stuck in my ears - and I have used quite a few!

I have now forked up the extra cash for the Etymotic HF2 which are much better built - even if getting the right sound out of them takes a little bit of practice. The mic on the HF2 is clearly superior to the UE too.
