I listened to these books on CD with my 9 and 11 year olds in the car. At first we scoffed at them and then we found them fun to laugh at. Ugenia's motto of Ingenious or Outrageous or whatever they were, become a running joke. But there seem to be a lot of authors who don't know what age they are writing for. The reading level is for ages 6-8 but the content including the single mom in the red convertable that takes these girls shopping has the kind of values you don't want to expose a small girl to because she may not understand that the character is not there as a role model. I can't quite explain what I am trying to say. There just seems to be a mismatch between writing level and content. Listening together out loud is a good way of pointing out what you might disapprove of in the text.

My seven-year old daughter really enjoys the stories which I read to her at night. That said, she has taken to re-reading the book by herself which is a testament to the author's work.

OK, these stories are harmless enough, but certainly nothing special. In the blitz of publicity that surrounded the launch of the series, the author kept saying that the books filled a clear gap in the market: there was Horrid Henry for boys, but no equivalent for girls. Really? I'm not one to object to more 'girl power' in children's books -- the more, the better -- but it just seems wrong to suggest there are no strong female characters out there.
All in all, another cynical exercise in celebrity publishing.

I love Ugenia! She is just fabulous and it is such a fun read. Love the quizzes at the end too.

My girls listen to this audiobook every night. I cannot get them to change. They love the adventures of Ugenia and her friends. Kids can relate to her and they love the British accent which is now a local trend.
