2.0 out of 5 stars Who are there books aimed at? 3 Mar 2009
Format:Hardcover
I listened to these books on CD with my 9 and 11 year olds in the car. At first we scoffed at them and then we found them fun to laugh at. Ugenia's motto of Ingenious or Outrageous or whatever they were, become a running joke. But there seem to be a lot of authors who don't know what age they are writing for. The reading level is for ages 6-8 but the content including the single mom in the red convertable that takes these girls shopping has the kind of values you don't want to expose a small girl to because she may not understand that the character is not there as a role model. I can't quite explain what I am trying to say. There just seems to be a mismatch between writing level and content. Listening together out loud is a good way of pointing out what you might disapprove of in the text.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ingenious . . . marketing! 9 Jun 2008
By Sparky
Format:Hardcover
OK, these stories are harmless enough, but certainly nothing special. In the blitz of publicity that surrounded the launch of the series, the author kept saying that the books filled a clear gap in the market: there was Horrid Henry for boys, but no equivalent for girls. Really? I'm not one to object to more 'girl power' in children's books -- the more, the better -- but it just seems wrong to suggest there are no strong female characters out there.
All in all, another cynical exercise in celebrity publishing.
