Pop it into the USB port, straight from the packet, and it is registered as:
USB HID v1.00 Device [C-Media USB Headphone Set ]
which is then enumerated in the various application drop-downs, volume controls and alsamixer.
Works a charm for VOIP with a good headset.

Despite the description on Amazon saying it is suitable for Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or later, the manufacturers specification is 98SE/ME/2000/XP. I have alot of time for Amazon but I guess, once in a while, something goes wrong.

I needed to find a USB audio fob that was suitable for modification to create a radio interface for my Asterisk (allstarlink.org) server. It had to have a CMedia CM-108 chip in a quad surface mount flat package and this device was the only one I found that fitted the bill. The others I tried had a CMedia device but they had bare chip units covered in epoxy. This modified unit is now in use and it is working fine.
