not wonderful 29 Dec 2007
This item is a cheap and easy to use (not having to open the pc) soundcard, but holds many problems.

For me, it installed on the second try even without the cd. Yet i have found from other users that this is not always the case. It works for some, some have to try a few times, and for others it does not work. (make sure your driver is fully updated)

Secondly this item got extremely overheated. It actually burnt my hand with less than 10 minutes use, which it then proceeded to no longer work becuase of the excessive heat.

Also because this item is a usb flashcard, it is quite weak and will break at easily if it is bent or hit while plugged in.

Overall, its what can be expected for such a low price. The sound quality isn't that bad, and if your lucky this item will install and you will have a working sound card.....until it breaks.

for a little more you can get a lot better external sound cards

Two is too many 19 May 2011
I've tried two of these. The first was dead on arrival. The second worked for a second, followed by a popping noise, then Windows reported a "device error". I then found it was very hot to the touch. Windows never recognized it as a functioning device again.

Not recommended because although its cheap, your wasted time is valuable.

I have one of these and it installs automatically with Windows XP and Windows 7 as a USB phone. This is odd, but not a problem. It works with Skype services. It works "Out Of The Box" in Ubuntu.
I use a USB port extender (about 5CM long) because I am not too happy about this device sticking out of the side of my laptop, or my netbook, come to that.

It has a tendency to "crackle" when first powering up, then settles down to work perfectly from then on.
The unit produces rich, clear sounds through a set of powered desktop speakers and the microphone input is average for this price bracket. The lack of driver specific controls means that windows controls have to be used which is a bit hit and miss.

Unlike others here, I have not found this unit to run hot, let alone warm to touch.

The unit is small enough to lose easily, yet its blue or green colour makes it easier to find in your box of junk. It could do with a lanyard or some kind of sticky pad to hold it down once fitted.

At the time of writing, I have been using one with my laptop for over a year with no problems.
