I have one of these and it installs automatically with Windows XP and Windows 7 as a USB phone. This is odd, but not a problem. It works with Skype services. It works "Out Of The Box" in Ubuntu.
I use a USB port extender (about 5CM long) because I am not too happy about this device sticking out of the side of my laptop, or my netbook, come to that.
It has a tendency to "crackle" when first powering up, then settles down to work perfectly from then on.
The unit produces rich, clear sounds through a set of powered desktop speakers and the microphone input is average for this price bracket. The lack of driver specific controls means that windows controls have to be used which is a bit hit and miss.
Unlike others here, I have not found this unit to run hot, let alone warm to touch.
The unit is small enough to lose easily, yet its blue or green colour makes it easier to find in your box of junk. It could do with a lanyard or some kind of sticky pad to hold it down once fitted.
At the time of writing, I have been using one with my laptop for over a year with no problems.
