The bible for travel within the USA,

It doesn't matter if you are visiting the USA for the first time or you live there, this book will give you brief explanations about all the good places to see and eat, and a variety of accommodations available in each area; from hotels to campsites. Whenever I found my self in unknown territories I would turn to my lonely planet for some local knowledge. It gives you some history of each place and points out those 'must see' sights, as well as those areas to avoid, which is particularly handy in large cities such as New York. There is a also a great tendency for the book to provide information about places which are not so well known, allowing you to get away from those tourist traps and get a real feel for the part of America that you are visiting. This book is especially good for those people who wish to tour the country and only have a limited amount of time in each place. No matter what part of America you wish to visit, this book will give you some inspiration when trying to decide what part of this massive country you want to discover next.

Excellent and concise guide to the USA,

I used this book while planning and on my trip round California - it was full of all the info you would want: background notes, destinations, etc. - and was excellent in pointing out what to see and do (or avoid). I recommend studying the guide before you get to the destination (once or twice I found I had missed something I would like to have seen).Note that the book was published in 1999 though - don't rely on the prices or some establishments' existence to be accurate!

Got this before my big trip to the states and although it was a little out of date with the prices the main attractions are still the same as are the money saving tips, eneded up being my bible while i was there and was a lot cheaper then buying it from WHSmith, cheers!
