I got this book recently and yes, the paper quality is worse and hence the pictures are not as good as in previous editions, but it is still full of detail. I will be traveling to the US next week, and will be visiting places recommended by the book. I will update the review once I am back but I am sure it is as good as other Lonely planet books.

This book fulfills all the criteria I've expected from the Lonely planet edition. Everything is clear and simple explained, maps help a lot. I would welcome more accommodation possibilities in smaller cities.

We really liked this thick-as-a-brick book. For less than 15 (delivered), this was less than a half of the price in local stores.
It has been great help when planning our USA visit. Even with Tripadvisor and other service today, having offline book that you can just browse through on the couch is nice.
I didn't find the paper quality bad. Nothing amazing, just basic paper. With this many pages, I didn't assume anything more.
For those wanting to travel to USA - and don't have yet a fixed destination - I definitely recommend this!
