In Civil War: Secret Missions, history buffs and first person action fans will get the chance to assume the role of Union and Confederate soldiers fighting behind enemy lines in famous Civil War battles. The player's goal is to disrupt the armies of both the North and South by any means necessary, including stopping enemy supply lines, stealing ironclad ships and sabotaging enemy strongholds. Engage in some of the Civil War's most famous battles, such as The Great Train Raid of 1861 and The Fall of Vicksburg as you utilize classic weapons of the era, including the pepperbox revolver and the coffee mill gun. All missions are based on the actions of famous partisans, scouts and rangers - fight as a member of Mosby's Rangers, Sheridan's Scouts and Grant's Secret Service and receive your mission commands from famous generals like Robert E. Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson, and Ulysses Grant.

Fun:
This is a disappointing effort from Activision. In its favour: it is one of the few FPS set before World War II; it is playable. That's about as far as the plus factors go. Against it: the graphics are mediocre; the AI is feeble; the Gameplay stilted and lacking any real sense of involvement - I am halfway through Mission 1 and although I appear to be fighting for the Confederates I am not sure which unit I am part of! Nor was any choice offered as to which side one fought; there is no Manual (either on a paper inclusion or on disc) and, although the basic controls are fairly generic for a FPS finding the extra features is a matter of trial and error e.g. I found out by accident that grenades were available when I pressed Key G and found I had thrown one! Two different sorts of carbine are provided (Spencer and Henry), but no handgun and no bladed weapon (Bowie knife/sabre). Activision's website appears never to have heard of the game so there is no technical support available. It's not even cheap! Save your money - at least until it slips into Bargain Basement!

if you are interested in the american civil war, like first person shooters and are a fan of battlefield vietnam then this is for you as long as you remember the weapons are old school and in the heat of battle one or two of them are single shot and need reloading and at close combat the enemy take some flooring even with a gun but the rest is all good a bargain buy.
