Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Unsavoury Products sees Parisian beat poet Black Sifichi illuminate the words of the original Dog, the reclusive Ken Downie's Book of Dogma, a tome of all things conspiratorial which takes in everything from the illuminati and Egyptology to musical academia and globalisation. As ex-Dog's Ed Handley and Andy Turner have enjoyed considerable success deconstructing the artificial intelligence movement as Plaid, so Downie drifted further and further into the outer limits of leftfield electronica. Downie and Sifichi prove ideal sonic sparring partners, with growling lyrical cut ups morphing into post-techno audio--the occasional flourish of brilliance drifting from the aural confusion, "Invisible Things" and "Someone at the Office" as irresistible as anything from the seminal Scanners or Bytes albums. It's inspirational. --Kingsley Marshall

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb cut up music + lyrics, 30 April 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: UNSAVOURY PRODUCTS (Audio CD)
It takes a while, but its worth it. Black Dog + Sifichi have made a diverse cd of rhythms, frequencies + lyrics combining new tracks with occasional wafts of previous BDP works. Like much of BDPs music, it contains elements of trance - not gatecrasher style, but rather music designed to illuminate.

The lyrics are funny, and often very odd, but they go well with the music. I recommend this cd as much for the packaging as the music, you can tell a lot of thought has gone into the whole project.
HAIL ISIS!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great album, 21 May 2004

This album flows from one song to the next, with recurring themes and great atmosphere. Black Sifichi's spoken word poetry mixes perfectly with Black Dog's mastery of rhythms. This album is worth your time and money. Listen to it late at night, eyes closed.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is underground?, 10 Jan 2003
By easy "strametto" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: UNSAVOURY PRODUCTS (Audio CD)
I had waited a while to pick up this gem, mainly due to the wack critics that were upset that it did not sound like the original Black Dog albums. So what, when you have a piece of work this interesting and original...you have to respect it for what it is. The album combines social commentary, dusted down-tempo beats, mind bending beat poetry and atmospherics. I have actually been looking for this exact album, just glad someone had the imagination to pull it off. Think 'Fight Club' concepts mixed with down-tempo/dub madness. Abstract Anarchy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Dog, The - Unsavoury Products, 22 Feb 2011
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: UNSAVOURY PRODUCTS (Audio CD)
The Black Dog continues its sonic adventures with Unsavoury Products, aided and abetted by the spoken-word (or more like growled-word) of Black Sifichi. It's difficult to tell which came first, the vocals or the music, because the two are so well-integrated that they seem to be an organic whole. Black Sifichi explores different moods with his monologues, from the drolly humorous "Mental Health Hotline" to the dark and brooding "Wishing Well." The music, however, is continually paranoid and complex. It's a fascinating combination: Beat poetry to beats.
