This probably seemed like a good idea by the designer but I found the backgound colours (pastel grey, rose, yellow and green) detracted from the brighter, primary colours of the images themselves. There seemed to be no system involved of colour symbolism, according to element for example, nor any especial suitability of the colours chosen contrasted to the original tones. A white background as in most packs, I now realise, does enhance the straighforward pictures which characterise thispack. Matters aren't helped by the choice of a cruder version of the pack, even by Marseilles standards. It's all a matter of taste but personally I found the background in this version not to add anything.
Please note thoguh, there is another Marseilles Tarot by Fournier which also has coloured backgrounds. I have not seen this pack other than online images. It looks to have clearer and more attractive colours and images than this reviewed pack.
