I am nothing to do with UK Gear and indeed I am a little annyoyed with them for running out of stock on me. However I persevered (there was a couple of days in it and it was not their fault - they offered a same price alternative almost immediately) and got this shoe. It has so far proven to be an excellent shoe and fits my foot wonderfully. Although I have been positive about other UK Gear shoes in the past it always seemed as if my (well cut) toe nails and training shoes were going to argue. With this shoe not a bit of it. I find I can run with this shoe for the first time with comfort - no nail problems, no rubbing on the skin above my heel and no tightness around the arch. The shoe is reasonably light (though not the lightest I have ever worn) and well worth the price. It wears well on the tread mill as it does on the muddy track. It cleans easily (low temperature wash) too.

I've had these for about eight months now. Positives are generally great to run in on any terrain, sure-footed and four wheel drive like. Reasonable weight, non-odourous, breath well and not unattractive. they also feel pretty indestructible. Check out YouTube for the guy that has run 1000 miles in a pair.

One big neg for me - not at all waterproof. not even a little bit. go through a reasonably large puddle - you'll know about it. For the price they definitely need to have some sort of GoreTex type protection.

Good but a work-in-progress. They could be great - at some point.

UK Gear PT-1000 4 Jan 2012

About me: I am getting back into running a lot of miles (about 30 per week for now). I have owned 6 pairs of a variety of Asics shoes and currently have Brooks Launch shoes. I have a fairly wide foot and a neutral stride.

Pros: They feel really solid. The front toes guard is larger than most shoes increasing durability. The fabrics seem ready for a lot of wear. The red straps running along the side hold feet well. The shoes are well padded. Running on trails shows off hold solid and supportive the soul is. Grey is a good color for muddy trail running. Fairly light despite the support and durability. They are a bit heavier than my Brooks and slightly lighter than my Gel Nimbus.

Cons: Styling is a bit 90s or English. Not anywhere near as good looking or flashy as new shoes such as my Brooks Launch. A bit stiff initially, but this is likely a sacrifice for long wearing shoes. Not as pliable and shock absorbing as my Brooks Launch, but again more supportive.

SIZING. I AM AN 11.5 IN MY BROOKS LAUNCH AND 11.5 ON A SIZING DEVICE, BUT MY 11.5 US SIZED SHOES ARE .5-1 SIZE TOO BIG. I ADVISE ORDERING .5 TOO SMALL OF THESE SHOES. WIDTH IS OK, BUT THEY ARE LONG.
