As with previous seasons of TUF (the ultimate fighter)the format is a simple one:

Bunch of fighters live in a house together while training in 2 teams. The individual fight in a single elimination style tournament until 2 fighters reach the final and the winner of that fight is the ultimate fighter and gets a 3 year 6 figure UFC contract.

The reason that the format hasn't changed all that much over the years is that for a start the format does create stars in a sport that needs them and the great thing with TUF is that your a fight fan and your other half isn't (because I know there are women mma fans with non-fan fella's) it's a great way of getting to watch some good action - my wife hates MMA but loves the reality aspect of TUF

This season is an especially good one as the coaches are great and the cast are interesting enough (at least in a dumbass type of way) to keep you watching!

The season also includes the worst fight outside of the cage of any season (the most technical street fight you will ever see) and a couple of really good fights.

The only complaint I have about this season is the cutting weight aspect (cutting weight is the attempt to lose weight very quickly prior to a fight to make the weight limit and is usually achieved by sweating out fluid in a sauna - often while riding an exercise bike) as some of the fighters could really damage themselves cutting as much as they do - although as this happens all the time before fights so for documentary purposes it should be in there.

All in all a great season and one to watch with the other half!!!

Not being a fan of lightweights generally, or BJ Penn, one of the coaches, and never having heard of the other one (Pulver), I did initially hesitate buying this set. Dana White summed this season when he described the contestants as having the Napoleon complex. Nearly all smaller men, they made this one of the most explosive of the series. I won't give too much away, but expulsions and confrontations outside the ring make this gripping viewing.

Incidentally, a number of the former contestants appeared this Saturday in UFC 118, so this is useful background material, and shows how this is a real way to enter the sport and not just reality TV.

It is let down by a lack of extras. Only a few of the fighters have a profile feature this time round and there is not much unseen footage. What footage is supplied reveals how the editing of the broadcast version of the show can make some events seem misleading.

I think I've seen this series about ten times over. Seriously, I'm a UFC fan, my fella is an ADDICT!

The best thing about Ultimate Fighter is the little dramas that happen during training and in the house. This series is no exception. The fighting is good of course. But the idosyncrasies are just fantastic in season 5. Who would have thought these macho muscle men were such drama queens.

Brilliant series. A must have for any UFC fan for sure. ^^
