Who would win in a no rules fight between a Judo & Kung Fu fighter? Who would win between a boxer and a Karate guy? Only 1 way to settle it! Round up some of the burliest guys and put them in a big cage 2 at a time and let them battle it out with limited rules (no eye gouging or biting), no rounds and no referee.
Introducing the Gracies to the world, this family of Brazilian ground fighters proved you don't need to be big to be hard. See Royce (pronounced Hoyce) choke, strangle, twist and manipulate his opponents into submitting! How useful is Western Boxing when someones got you on the floor with the air being choked out of you? Not very it would appear!!
As someone who's watched MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) grow and develop this is a must buy purchase. For any martial artist this is a must buy as it shows the effectiveness of styles in real combat.
Sometimes brutal, but entertaining.

UFC - the beginning 9 July 2005

Raw violence and embodies what UFC was meant to be about, ie forget the rules.

Can be very nasty and not for the faint hearted. Don't blink.

When I was young Id often ponder on what would happen if a Kung Fu expert tangled with a Jujitsu master, or if a boxer met a wrestler etc. Suddenly that was possible with the start of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Unfortuneatley, it would be a while before the UFC (or MMA to the more knowledgable fan) would develop into the sport it is today. This DVD is still good to watch but most of the fighters havnt a clue about mixed martial arts and therefor most of the fights look amatuerish but still brutal. It is quite funny aswell, especially when a boxer comes out to the octagon wearing a solitary boxing glove .... what was he thinking?

This DVD is still entertaining but the production value differs greatly from the UFC's slick production of today. If your a fan of MMA then this should be in your collection for mainly historic purposes.
