Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Red Storm Entertainment and creator Tom Clancy's genre-busting game Rainbow Six combined elements of first-person shooters and tactical strategy games and grabbed numerous game-of-the-year awards. With those credentials, it was virtually inevitable that the gaming community would be graced with a brand new--and much improved--sequel. Rogue Spear, the 1999 follow-up to Red Storm's Rainbow Six follows the old adage that if something isn't significantly flawed, don't attempt repair. Though Rainbow Six featured some minor bugs and game-play concerns, Red Storm keeps the proven game play intact, but improves the 3-D engine and implements fan requests, such as increasing sniper support and adding a "peer around walls" key, to create a near-flawless follow-up.

In Rogue Spear, players once again assume command of an elite counter-terrorist group known as Rainbow and guide them through a dynamic campaign filled with nerve-racking missions, such as rescuing hostages from a museum and infiltrating a hijacked airliner. Like its predecessor, Rogue Spear uses an elaborate pre-mission planning screen to assign routes and duties to each team member. During the mission, the intensity level and graphical splendour rise exponentially. Rogue Spear eschews typical first-person shooter elements like health packs and armour power-ups; the real-world weapons ensure that one whizzing bullet could be the last thing you see. Tense, strategic missions, various multiplayer options and a mission editor create one of the most engrossing game experiences around. --Doug Radcliffe

Manufacturer's Description

Rainbow Six is back... and tougher than ever. Due to the team's fantastic success with defusing major terrorist incidents, the international community has come to depend on RAINBOW as the main force secretly protecting citizens world-wide. Thus, the story continues in Rogue Spear with the team's initial missions being business as usual: a hostage situation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and an aeroplane hijacking. However, the team soon discovers that these crisis situations are actually related to the nefarious plots of not one, but two antagonists--the Russian Mafia and a Middle Eastern terrorist organisation--groups who have, until now, been able to escape the jaws of international justice. Through a series of increasingly difficult missions, RAINBOW uncovers the terrorists' deadly master plan, just in the nick of time--to save the world again.

Players will have new weapons at their disposal as well as sniper specialists to properly take out deadly foes from afar, and with over 400 new motion capture moves, terrorists and hostages will react even more realistically to you and your team. The frozen breaths of team members will be seen puffing from their mouths in snowy conditions while footprints are left behind. Guide your team with a joystick, add more terrorists with the mission editor, and send your friends a copy of your greatest attack with the cinematic replay feature. All of this and more will make Rogue Spear the greatest action/strategy game you have ever played. Just remember one thing: if you fail, the game isn't over--the world is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bigger is not always better., 29 Oct 2001

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
What the first Rainbow six lacked graphically, it more than made up for in it's gameplay. Rogue Spear is more of the same stuff, only this time, there are more levels, which are bigger and more complex, and loads more weaponary and equipment are available for your squad. And while the game looks great, playing it is a different matter. The terrorists, while in the first game couldn't hit a barn door, all seem to be sharpshooters, who can drop you with one shot from a thousand yards. They also seem to be rather trigger happy, willing to execute hostages at the drop of a hat. It wasn't long before I got so annoyed with the game, I was contemplating putting my fist through the monitor.

My advice proceed with caution, for serious gamers only.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is better than Rainbow Six........, 22 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Yes, its better than Rainbow Six but is that all you want to hear, my answer is no. Think about Rainbow Six for a moment then imagine improving every aspect of the game, and you end up with Rogue Spear.

The missions have been improved, i.e there harder and more complicated. You will love the graphics and sound but there is one thing you might not like: the AI. They seem to shoot at anything once you have even entered a room, and after spending 20 minutes trying to rescue the hostages you will be soo annoyed to see your hostages being shot by the brainless enemie, hey its only a game!

My advice is buy this game. If you had Rainbow Six or don't know anything about the Rainbow seris you will like this edition. Oh, by the way if you have the internet download MSN gaming zone or Gamespy because Rogue Spear on muliplayer is brillant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game........................only 1 problem, 21 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This is one of the best soldier sims of recent years, anyone who has ever wanted to be part of a crack anti-terrorist team (SAS, GSG9, Spetznaz,) then this is the game 4 u, u plan every aspect of your mission, the graphics r good, the sound is good, the gameplay is good, but the only problem is that your enemy are far to efficient at what they do, they fire on full automatic and don't miss, they r far to willing to shoot hostages. This makes the game frustrating at times but im hooked and think the games great, if there is a sequal and they solve these minor AI problems then this series can only get better.

My advice buy this game now!
