The most obvious thing about this game is the fact that it was not written for the PC. It was written for the PS2 and ripped screaming from there and stuffed into the garb of a PC game. The gameplay remains seemingly unchanged and the in-game hints showing you how to perform one of the many cool moves stil show the PS2 keystrokes. This means that you have to translate which PS2 gamepad button relates to which PC keystoke. This is extreamly annoying and ment that I had been playing the game for a week before I worked out how to shoot arrows! The "PC Friendly" control chart also seems to be wrong and the in-game control customizer look like it has been badly translated from Japanese.
However that aside, once you figure out the controls you will realise that Onimusha 3 has survived being ported from the PS2 very well and is actually a very good game.
The gameplay is simple but addictive with enough different moves that I find myself wanting to start again to see if I could do any better this time around! The addition of a training mode means that you can practice and hopefully perfect all the moves available to you in relative safety - completing each training session also earns you a reward, usually in the form of a health item. Since you will control three characters during the course of the game the gameplay is varied as each character fights in a different way with diffeent weapons and tactics.
One of the strongest points for Onimucha 3 is the storyline, a little bit far-fetched maybe but atleast they have made the effort to get it to flow, make sense and keep your interest.
Overall a very good game and worth the money if you have not played any of the other Onimusha games before. If you have or you have a PlayStation get the original version. Happy hunting.
