Product Description

Product Description
Conquest: Frontier Wars is a 3-D real-time strategy game of galactic domination. Controlling one of three races, players exploit native and foreign planets for resources and wealth, engage enemy fleets in battle and develop combat techniques and technologies with the ultimate goal of exploring, colonising and conquering far-flung worlds.

In Conquest Frontier Wars you have the Terrans, which are more dependent, the Mantis, which are Crew dependent, and the Celareons, which are gas dependent. All three races are unique in design and appearance. The Terrans use projectile weapons and are the most well rounded of all three races. The Mantis is carrier heavy, and prefers a long distance attack. The Celareons are the most advanced race and they use beam-type weaponry to attack you: they work best with hit-and-run tactics.

5.0 out of 5 stars A game with an edge, 11 Nov 2001
By A Customer
At this point I have only played the Demo of the game, but that was enough to get me hooked, it's a stratergy game like many others, but it has a quality that puts it above the rest. First thing to note is there is more than one resource to collect, Ore, Gas and crew are all required to keep your stations and ships functioning, these are gained from asteroid fields, nebula and planets which are also essential for base construction, plus you have a limited number of command points, basically meaning you can either build one huge dreadnought or two smaller destroyers for the same ammount of points. The best feature in my opinion is you are not limited to one field of battle, there are about 5/6 solar systems in each level, each one containing about 4 planets and numerous resource deposits, each system is linked to another by wormholes, you can even build a jumpgate over the wormhole to prevent any enemy ships from entering your system (untill they destroy the gate that is). This little feature gives the game something that others don't have, the feeling of pushing the enemy back, it makes the game last longer too, in other games you build a large attack force and throw them at the enemy, once you have got through there lines and destroyed there vital factories and buildings the game is essentially over, not so here, the enemy may have 4 systems in there hands and each one has the buildings required to build ships and defences, each system has to be cleared, sometimes a system can change hands several times, there is also the problem that the closer you get to the enemy home system the resources become more scarce as the enemy has taken them already, you have to work for victory, not just throw ships into the frey
There is the usual but wide selection of small and large ships plus static weapon emplacements, the graphics look good but I have seen better and the sound is good too, It's not going to topple Homeworld as the number 1 space stratergy game, but it's one of the best games of it's type I have seen so far, and I have only played the demo!!!. I'm looking forward to the release of the full version, and would recomend it to any stratergy game fan, a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will eat you time but you won't care., 15 Oct 2003

I finally got this game when I found it in the budget section. I wish I'd got it sooner. II have had it for two mouths (ish) now And I still haven't finished it (admittedly I when on other games for three weeks) but with missions lasting a couple of hours (five for one of them) this is no one-week blast.

There is a fair amount of units loads of upgrades (shield, Armour, fire power special weapon..) And there are three different sides with many different units in each. Admittedly you can only play the terren (human forces) in single player but If you capture an enemy fabricator (building space ship you can build almost all of there building and units! I would recommend this to any RTS fan but there is some thing to bear in mind, units do not have infinite amount of ammo like many RTS games, they have a certain amount of supplies (This amount can be upgraded) So attack forces will need supply ships to keep them firing but there nothing like space combat in this game! Massive carrier ship unleash hundreds of little fighters, huge gun turrets spew destruction and powerful super weapons punch though hulls. This may keep you playing for 5 hours (plus) a day but it will be five hours well spend.

Even thought this game can be infuriating at time (the mantis are a particular pain)it if mostly enjoyable and will keep you interested even out of combat.

The 15 quid (or 10-5 if you look around) is worth it for the game even if the voice acting is a bit corny "we will fight until or flesh is hacked form our bones!"

You can control multiple system linked by wormholes and have massive fleets (limited only by how many control points you can get in any one mission)and in skirmish and multiplayer you can have fleets with admirals which generate bonuses and keep the fleet together.

Try combining different technology effects for extra variety and have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars W0W, 27 Dec 2001

Most strategy games have the usual formula, build a horde of units and send them in one big attack on the enemy. Frontier Wars is different, i tried that strategy and it does not work, all sides are superiour in their own ways and all have their weaknesses. A brilliant game which is a MUST have for strategy gamers
