Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

In an ever-expanding world of sim games, Capitalism 2 builds on the solid reputation of its predecessor as one of the best business sims on the market. Your objective is simple--get filthy rich and run a huge business empire. The question really is: do you have the commercial and business sense to make it happen?

Capitalism 2 introduces two new campaigns. The Entrepreneur Campaign contains the tutorials to get you familiar with the business ideals and skills before you attempt the Capitalist Campaign, in which you are presented with a scenario, for example, to resolve to restore and secure market dominance in a small technology company. The range of business choices is vast with plenty of opportunity for (business) world domination.

The interface and menus are fairly easy to navigate, introducing more advanced options as your business grows and should present no challenges to seasoned gamers--the manual also gives a detailed guide to the games' major functions. Visually it is a little limited but this does not inhibit the gameplay or detract from what is principally a strategy game. On the plus side, the game is not too power hungry, so will happily run on your ageing computer.

Capitalism 2 is great improvement over its predecessor and recommended to fans of Capitalism --Simon Priestley

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Business Similation I have seen, But........., 2 Mar 2002
By A Customer
The complexity of this business simulation is simply awesome. I am an experienced BSG player (and incidently a real-time project manager). After owning this game about 10 days I still have not scratched the surface of its various elements, let alone made a real impression on its "Rich List" hall of fame. Or felt confident enough to challenge another player on-line.

I am definately hooked and will assuredly get many hours of fun, challenge and mental exercise from this purchase.

Now the But - sorry, if not for the But, I would be giving this 5 stars.

The user interface is not very friendly. Players of SimCity will miss the various "views" which enable the player to see at a glance what is happening in the city. "Views are absent from this game and this causes a lot of player stress just keeping track of your own business interests, let alone those of the opposition.

Colour coding is essential, but, the huge coloured logos attached to buildings are not just hard on the eyes, but, they obsure other properties. Included in this gripe, there is no way to see behind these logos, or any large buildings, so that your own property can get lost in these blind spots. Players of SimCity will wonder where the view rotation is for seeing behind things, while Transport Tycoon fanatics would be satisfied if a simple transparent view had been provided. Transport Tycoon gives a good example of a better way to label property than the huge coloured logos in this.

The menues in all areas are very long winded and repeating an action several times, such as when purchasing technology can be very tedious indeed.

The manual, oh, how wonderful to have a manual in these days of print your own or manage with the help menues, would be excellent if only the company had added a simple table of contents and an index.

Property which has been demolished leaves behind an area of unusable land instead of making the land available for redevelopment. I am sure this is a bug and a fix is pending as huge tracts of the city can become complete wasteland in a few years.

And finally, and this may be because I still have a lot to learn, but there appear to be a number of quite significant bugs. (Well, this is issue 1.00 so some bugs are inevitable). For example, head office staff have no abilities at the start of the game, and, 30 years on, they have learned nothing - ouch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Give it a go and see if you can reach the bored!, 20 Feb 2002
Capitalism II is fun. I was looking for a business sim, and I got it, but it is not a deep game. It doesn't get under your skin.
You get to run your own business, either playing set scenarios or setting your own limits, and the rough and tumble of the stock market is interesting, but the game stops just short of being addictive.
The main problem for me was the personal wealth aspect. You could own shares as CEO, and build mansions, as many mansions as your fat cat salary could afford, but there is no rental from the mansions when they are built. So why build them? If they had built in a personal investment aspect, where you could speculate in property as well as through the corporation, that would be much better.
And once you get a company making money the end game is a bit flat. It all goes terribly slowly in real time, and speeding up just means that it is hard to keep track of everything.
I was hooked for two weeks of my spare time, but soon got bored, which was a shame.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Rags to Riches, 18 Feb 2002
By S. Page "onejob" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Capitalism 2 is a management sim to crown all others. If you enjoy complicated and brain teasing puzzles trying to work out supply and demand or the complexities of stock market trading, this is for you.

Capitalism 2 will ease you in with some well designed tutorials to make you feel a little at home but, in all honesty, you'll probably have the game paused for the majority of the time just to study the many different menus and screens.

These menus cover everything. For instance, it's not just a matter of selling a product that you've lovingly crafted in your down town factory. You must choose a strategy like brand labelling and then advertise using the 3 media types modelled in the game.

Multiple cities and opponents can be customised as well as multiplayer options, all with a miriad of sub options to suit most tastes in difficulty.

So, if you're a budding Branson and fancy a REAL challenge, Capitalism 2 is for you but a word of warning: NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!!
