From the Manufacturer

Assassin's Creed Rogue

18th century, North America. Amidst the chaos and violence of the French and Indian War, Shay Patrick Cormac, a fearless young member of the Assassin Brotherhood, undergoes a dark transformation that will forever shape the future of the American colonies. After a dangerous mission gone tragically wrong, Shay turns his back on the Assassins who, in response, attempt to end his life. Cast aside by those he once called brothers, Shay sets out on a mission to wipe out all who turned against him and ultimately become the most feared Assassin hunter in history.

Introducing Assassin's Creed Rogue, the darkest chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise yet. As Shay, you will experience the slow transformation from Assassin to Assassin Hunter. Follow your own creed and set off on an extraordinary journey through New York City, the wild river valley, and far away to the icy cold waters of the North Atlantic in pursuit of your ultimate goal to bring down the Assassins.

Become the ultimate Assassin hunter

For the first time ever, experience the Assassin's Creed universe from the perspective of a Templar. Play as Shay who, in addition to the deadly skills of a Master Assassin, also possesses never before seen skills and weapons.

Equip Shay's deadly air rifle for both short- and long-range combat. Distract, eliminate, or confuse your enemies by using a variety of ammunition, including specialised bullets and grenades.

Protect yourself from hidden Assassins with your enhanced Eagle Vision. Use your vision to constantly assess your surroundings and detect Assassins hiding in the shadows, on rooftops, and in the crowds.

Slowly descend into darkness

Witness Shay's transformation from an adventurous Assassin to a grim and committed Templar willing to hunt down his former brothers.

Experience first-hand the events that will lead Shay down a dark path and set him on a course that will forever change the fate of the Assassin Brotherhood.

New enemy tactics: Defend yourself from Assassins as they attempt to board your ship and overthrow your crew. Fight them off quickly to avoid losing too many crew members.

New and improved naval gameplay

Cast off in your ship, The Morrigan, and fight your way through the icy seas of the North Atlantic and the narrow waters of America's river valleys. Assassin's Creed Rogue builds on the award-winning naval experience from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag with all new gameplay.

New weapons such as burning oil, which leaves a trail of fire behind to burn enemy ships, and the puckle gun, capable of delivering continuous machine gun-like fire.

An arctic world full of possibilities: Ram through ice sheets to discover hidden locations and use icebergs as cover during naval battles.

Vast, diverse open world to explore

Shay's story will allow you to explore three unique environments.

The North Atlantic Ocean: Experience the cold winds and towering icebergs of the arctic in this expansive naval playground.

The River Valley: A large hybrid setting of the American Frontier mixing seamless river navigation and ground exploration.

New York City: One of the most well-known cities in the world, fully recreated as it existed in the 18th century.

Generically Rogue is a copy of Black Flag I won't deny it. The game play is majorly the same with minor tweaks here and there. Almost all side activities are the same also. The story itself however is a much needed link as it bridges the way from Black Flag to Rogue to Unity to AC3 - all in one game. Characters who seemed unimportant in the previous games have a new light shed upon them giving them purpose and the ability to strike chords within the gamer and it also opens the path for the story of the PS4 release of Unity. Back in the modern age you are once again in the offices of Abstergo Entertainment, fixing their computers which in return reveals templar data on major characters in the game series. The view of the Templars is an interesting one and it's about time we got a window into that part of the AC world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not underestimate this game! 24 Dec. 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Edition:Standard Edition
This is by far one of the best AC games since, dare I say, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. At first I was dubious as to whether to get this game; its trailers and first reveal of gameplay footage did no favours to it as in my eyes it seemed like a carbon copy of Black Flag, but I was wrong to think so.

Set between Black Flag and ACIII, you play as Shay Cormac, an assassin gone 'rogue'. You meet new and old friends (If you're new to the AC games, I do not recommend starting with this one), and are put in an epic plot that sees twists and turns that'll make you feel a mixture of emotions. Although styles of gameplay may seem very similar to its predecessors, something about the storyline and character development just works perfectly.

I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of the series, because within a few hours of playing this, you'll see this game's true potential of being one of the greatest AC games to date.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
It's about time we got to experience the Templar side of things in one of these games but how does it match up to the rest of the series? I'm a big fan of AC4: Black Flag and the more recent AC: Unity so let's see how Shay's adventure holds up.

Story
-----

In Assassin's Creed Rogue you play as Shay Cormac. As you already know, Shay becomes a Templar but you start out the game as an assassin tasked with locating and retrieving important Pieces of Eden for your brotherhood. Shay questions the Assassin Brotherhood and its goals but never has a reason to doubt them until something terrible happens and he feels responsible. Trying to do the right thing, he aligns himself with the Templars in order to prevent the Assassin's from seizing power. I loved Black Flag but thought that its story was its weakest part so I'm glad to be able to say that AC: Rogue has a better story. You're introduced to familiar faces such as Adewale, Achilles, Haytham Kenway and George Washington throughout the story and if you've played any of the more recent games like Black Flag and AC3 you know who these people are and you get a better understanding of the story and how it all, eventually, comes full circle. You get to visit familiar locations like the Davenport Homestead, New York and the River Valley as well as loads of smaller locations such as islands, outposts and fishing villages and Shay even ends up in France at one point so for those of who are playing Unity, you'll get a great blend of the two stories and how they interlock.

Shay's story starts off a little weak but picks up towards the end of the second sequence.

3.0 out of 5 stars The (almost) lovable Rogue. 20 Dec. 2014

Though an Assassin's Creed fan the Assassin's Creed games have been going a long time now and were starting to feel stale with the yeatrly release scedule (two this year) until Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag came out last year and completely refreshed the series with it's excellent pirate themed seafaring action. It was in a word, brilliant. Cashing in on Black Flag's success comes Assassin's Creed Rogue, an almost exact template of Black Flag with enough minor tweaks to keep things interesting enough but still with an overwhelming sense of De ja vu.

In Rogue your character goes, well, Rogue. Set before Assassin's Creed III you play the role of Shay, a fairly (in my opinion) unlikable assassin who feels disillusioned with the order and after a series of events ends up joining the Templars and fighting his former colleagues.

This change of perspective is actually pretty interesting from both a narrative and gameplay point of view. Assassins constantly lurk in haystacks, rooftops and bushes waiting for a chance to ambush Shay as he explores New York which really turns the table on the series and though annoying at times it's pretty fun to hunt them out. From a story point of view showing the assassins being a bunch af thugs that hide to murder people and stop the Templars from protecting people and keeping order really spins things on their head. It's perspective.

Outside of the one city map of New York there are two other maps for seafaring, one more open and more like navigating a bunch of islands.
