When I saw U-Turn, I didn't know what to expect. I guess I was looking forward to a good scary suspense flick. But then I was very surprised and found that the content of this movie was far greater and more interesting than just trying to scare the audience. This movie is showing emotions of fear, but also faith, commitment, sadness , and love. The end was so surprising, I gotta see it again. And I will watch it from a totally different perspective (this is a very rare quality for any movie), and I will enjoy it just as much, or maybe even more. I tried to detect fallacies in the story. I couldn't find one. Plus, for those who appreciate great music, the soundtrack only helps to heighten the experience of the film I wish I could say all the things I liked about it but that would spoil your experience. So take a night off and go see U-Turn. Sit back, relax, enjoy, and let it scare you. It's Miller time.

in pretty much any vehicle but this one in particular. He plays a man on the run an in debt whose car breaks down in a backwater town. His attempts to get the car fixed and hold off the gangsters as well as the locals are darkly hilarious with some stellar turns by billy bob thotnton and joaquin phoenix. Jennifer lopez is surprisingly good too although the strange relationship with her father (nick nolte) gets a little graphic towards the end. Highly recommended.

A fantastic film with outstanding performances from Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Voight and the rest of the crew.

If you like suspenseful films, then this one will be right up your street, and from the word go it does not fail to live up to its expectations, coupled with a brilliant performance from Penn.

Imagine a town where everyone is strange, and you unluckily break down there, with the only car mechanic being a strange character whom you would not even leave your mother in-law with, let alone you're beloved Chevrolet. Well things start going from bad to worse for Sean Penn, who then manages to get involved with Lopez, who happens to be involved with everyone else in the crazy town.

The ending is brilliant and unpredictable, and let's just say you should always listen to the advice of a blind man!!

Oliver Stone is the guy whose dad was a successful Banker or something and son Ollie went off and volunteered for a tour of duty in Vietnam. He wrote about the experience in Platoon. A different kind of film-maker then. Stone's JFK was a "pit-bull" of a movie that lent clever direction and intelligence to a screen in love with the shallow. He followed up with more informative but entertaining stuff.

So when Ollie turns to Black Comedy, it's got to be good. In fact it is brill. One of my favorite movies for all the brilliant cameo (?) caricatures and the shifting characters who respond differently depending on who they are talking to (as do most of us in life)- Everyone is inconsistent. The cast list is stellar for the 90's. Almost every face was an A lister. It may be a dark and twisted morality tale - but you die laughing - especially at Joachim Pheonix's local teen bully. Worth watching to see that alone. Even a one second shot of a bad guys tattoo is one of the most memorable tattoos that you'll ever see. Why don't they pass a law that says no one can direct a movie until they are as smart as Stone?

This film has been labeled as Stone's worst.

Nothing, could be further from the truth.

The problem, i think, most critics had with the film, is that it lacks the social commentary and controversial nature of pretty much all of Stone's work - however, if you simply look closer, you'll see that there are tinges of the two.

Sean Penn gives one of his best performances as the jinxed drifter Bobby Cooper, Jenifer Lopez, gives her best performance by far and the supporting cast are ecstatic.

This movie is an absolute gas, the ending, the score and music, the warped cinematography (that obviously influenced SPUN) and performances are a riot, and far out of the box.

I like to think of this film as Kerouac meets Lynch, it's a story about one criminal's day in hell. And it works, from start to finish it doesn't fail to entertain or be intelligent. Like the majority of Stone's work. See it and you'll live it.

I've never been a big fan of Jennifer Lopez or Sean Penn but......
This film is great and they're great too! This film was just one disc of the "Ultimate Oliver Stone Collection" so I had to watch it.
Penn plays Bobby Cooper, a seriously unlucky guy who breaks down in a small "hick" Mexican town. The people he meets on the journey are peculiar at best, especially the mechanic. There's a good cast here also, with Nick Nolte, Billy Bob Thornton and Joaquin Pheonix all playing out of type.
More twists and turns than a "twisty turny thing", this is a recommended watch. Stone's direction is similar to his Natural Born Killers and will not disappoint in any way. The musical score is also excellent (Ennio Morricone).
If you like a good road movie, this is one of the best and I'm sure it will reach cult status at some point. Definitely one for the collection!
