Someone in motor racing once said the most important thing on the car was the tyres it doesn't matter how much power you have or how good your suspension is, put on a poor tyre and you have a poor car.
If you look at F1 during the tyre wars era the tyres were the same spec but depending on the conditions hot, damp or wet and the tyre choice slick, inters and wets. Teams with one make of tyre would be quick with the wets on, yet teams on the other make would walk it in the dry.
The tyre is a critical part of the suspension, steering, transmission and brakes.
To understand a bit more about tyres it's useful to know what the sidewall markings mean, this book contains those meanings.
One of the most curious things will be the measurement of tyres with few exception the Rim Diameter is in Inches, the Apsect Ratio is a Percentage, the Width is in millimeters and a lot relative to a standard or Index!
Do you know when your Tire/Tyre was made? It's there in the markings, the year and the week.
