There were fears that Tyrannosaurus Hives, the major label debut from the Hives could find these Scandinavian punk showmen somewhat compromised. After all, their breakthrough LP, 2002's Your New Favourite Band--a compilation of tracks that date back to 97 and their time on Swedish punk label Burning Heart--worked because it struck exactly the right balance between amphetamine punk snarl and addictive pop gold. Refreshingly though, even under the yoke of a major label, the Hives play their rock & roll like a fuse burning short. "Abra Cadaver" is a two-minute blast of Stooges worship that joyfully confirms the band's pledge to straight-up garage--and intriguingly, it finds lead singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist sounding more like the Strokes' Julian Casablancas than ever, albeit Casablancas with blood on his shoes and skin under his fingernails. Meanwhile, there's myriad moments where the Hives demonstrate themselves to be far more than a boozy bar-band: "No Pun Intended", which wields a curious complex chord progression you'd perhaps expect from Fugazi, or "Diabolic Scheme" a taut, mid-paced number bedecked with stabbing violin sweeps straight out of a Hammer horror. --Louis Pattison

These guys are insane, so give 'em a listen!,

This is a great energetic album, which grabs your attention and refuses to let go. With names like Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, Chris Dangerous, Dr Matt Destruction, Vigilante Carlstroem and Nicholaus Arson you no that your in for a great time! These guys are insane and it's reflected in the sound throughout, especially 'Diabolic Scheme'! The best songs are 'Two Timing Touch and Broken Bones' and 'A Little More for Little You' as well as the great single 'Walk Idiot Walk'. There isn't a bad song here and it's well worth a listen. This album is superior to 'My New Favourite Band', which is their best of. If you love 'Hate To Say I Told You So' which is an awesome song, you will love this album. Punk at it's very best!P.S. Check their suits out!

Why aren't the Hives more well known with an album like this,

This album (I thought) was a really outstanding one. You can take the Hives anywhere and enjoy them- to the gym, the bus, the car, the lounge, study...whatever. This album is no exception. I really did enjoy this, and I see no reason why the Hives shouldn't be more well-known- they should rate up there with the Killers, RHCP, MUSE, F.Ferdinand etc... surely? Ah well, enjoy this- it's brill! All rock fans will be glad they spent the money.

I bought this album without much knowledge of the band which was quite stupid, and before I listened to it I thought "Man, this is just gonna be crap isn't it?" HOW WRONG WAS I. As soon as I put it on the blast of sheer sound from Abra Cadaver absolutely wowed me. I must have listened to it now about 50 times over. The songs sound like they have been made with the same idea, but they all have their own originality. One of my favourites is B is for Brutus. This album drove me to buy their compilation album, Your New Favourite Band. Just as good buy it now. buy it now I also saw them buy it now live and buy it now they ROCKED buy it now!!!!!! My band also did B is for Brutus buy it now and everyone said buy it now we rocked also buy it now! Incase you haven't noticed, buy it now.
