Both the previous reviewers have it wrong! Maybe the instructions weren't clear enough. The lacquer should be completely removed before any food is cooked, inside and out, by dissolving it off in heated oil. Then you are cooking on bare naked steel. Some things will stick but after a few uses a dark patina develops (check the woks at your fave takeaway, no teflon there). This wok is the real deal, takes a bit more looking after but will last more than your lifetime.

I had a Typhoon steel wok for about 5 years. The lacquer MUST be removed first in order to use the wok. As with all good steel woks it must also be seasoned properly and will become effectively non stick after it has patinated.

The only criticism of it would be that it is rather heavy (especially with enough food to feed four people in it). Superb bit of kit otherwise.

Mine has now been retired in favour of the non stick version of this wok.

After the first cook, the lacquer on the inside surface of the wok turn browny/yellow and then just peeled off. What a shame of the "Typhoon Professional" .........
