Sherston's Type with Tizzy
is a highly interactive program designed to help children develop keyboard familiarity and competence - and have fun in the process!
With help from Tizzy the magical clown, children work through the carefully structured activities, each one helping them to gain a greater understanding of the functions and layout of the keyboard. Amusing animations, combined with repetition and positive reinforcement, ensure that young children using Type with Tizzy remain engaged and motivated throughout.
Here's a sample of some of the 19 focused activities:
Tizzy in Goal
- children must correctly type the displayed key in order to score a goal against Tizzy.
(shown in screenshot) - encourages placement and use of two hands on the keyboard. Children must find and type the displayed letter before time runs out, to move TIzzy and Rocky forward in the race
Jigkeys - sections of the keyboard are missing and children must re-assemble them, like jigsaw puzzles.
Rescue Bluey - Bluey the budgie has escaped. Children must use the arrow keys to move Tizzy around the screen until she is close enough to catch Bluey.
Practise - Tizzy provides children with various pieces of text to copy, to help develop speed and accuracy. Children can print a copy of what they type.
Guess the Key - children choose a key to hide from Tizzy. Tizzy then ask the children a series of questions about the hidden key. The idea is to develop and use key vocabulary.
Comprehensive help feature within each activity to support your child.
